Hi Guys and Girls,

I am another one of these guys who has been driving around in a little 4 cylinder and looking at making the step up to an XR6 Turbo and it will be my first purchase from the Ford stable after owning 2 commodores and a lancer.

I am looking at a second hand car, been doing a bit of reading a decided to look around for a BF mk II sedan. I love the look and the performance of the BF XR range.

Going to look at a few this Sunday around Sydney.

The ones I will be checking out are BF mk II either 2007 or early 2008 models and have an average of 60,000-75,000 on the clock.

2 out of 3 have the premium sound upgrade which I am looking for.

From the pics they all look like they are in pretty good condition, suppose in person I would be able to tell more.

They range in price from $23,000 to $27,000.

Is there anything I should look out for or make sure that I check and does that price range seem right for this model ?

Thanks in advance.

be mindful, when u buy from a dealer... they need the sale more than you need the car... so set out what you want... if they dont play ball, walk away.. I ended up getting my bf mk2 xr6t with 38000kms (I think from memory), premo, november 07, 12 months rego, new tyres, full tank, front bar resprayed (that's all I can remember for now lol...for $24,000....

mind u I am great at bargining... :spoton:

Oh and remember this was like May last year I think..

60-75km for an 07 or even 08 is pretty high if you ask me!!!

But yes dont buy the first one you see. Dealers are desperate to off load this vintage at the moment

First and foremost, don't buy a car that's been modified(engine). Anyone modifying an XR6T is highly likely to have taken to the drags or given it a hard time on the road at the very least.

Get a BF or BF2.

Service history.

Preferably under 60k on the clock.

Request driving details from the owner. Highway klms are not taxing on the i6, lots of driving around town wears gearboxes, breaks, clutches etc much faster.

Don't settle. There is a wealth of XR6Ts for sale in your price range so get what you want!

Be patient and you'll score a great ride. Judging by your comments regarding previous cars owned, you'll be very happy in an XR6T.

Thanks for the tips guys. have been looking around for a bit at different cars, getting closer to decision time.

On the dealer issue, just thought they are usually safer in ways then buying a car privately.

Got my eye on one for tomorrow that is Neo blue.

One more question though, a few people have been saying that you need to run XR6-Turbos on Premium Unleaded, is this the case or just recommended? Don't mind either way but have heard some people saying normal unleaded is fine.

In my experience with premium fuels, I exclusively use 98 in all my cars, firstly because it is a cleaning burning fuel, so better for your internals, oh and the environment.

I was told though unless your car is tuned to run on the high octane, you wont see any benefits, I.e power, or fuel efficiently. On that note of fuel efficiency, I have found there only to be a 1% improvement on fuel use between the 91ron as opposed to the 98ron, so the cost of the extra ron for me outweighs the price you pay for 98.

But my FG has been tuned to run on 98, and I feel the benefits in power, and I like the fact that I have a clean burning fuel running through my engine, so I use 98 exclusively.

If your starts to "ping" or detonate while using 91ron, then I'd suggest you try moving upto 98ron and also making sure your car is tuned to run on it, so you reek the benefits of it

I just bought a BA Mk11 yesterday. In looking for something similar to what you are, I found that the year you're after and the km's generally means one of two things - ex cop chaser or ex rep car.

Either option for me personally is no good - the cop chaser has been punished (normally) and the rep cars are rarely treated well - that's what I've found.

I went back to an '05, found right colour and km's, saved some money and put leather into it as a reward for myself!

Good luck with the search...
