I looked at all the options. Finally decided to take a risk on the Formula One tint from tint-a-car.

I think the AM reception may be a little affected, but can't really tell as I haven't listened to it before or since.

No issue with FM or mobile reception.

Dark tint was really important as was heat so that is why I chose metallic over dye based. For what it's worth, I think it was a good choice ( particulary for QLD )

I had the dealer fit my tint from new and my radio reception on FM or AM has always been terrible. My old AUII that my wife is now driving (which also has the premium sound option) has perfect reception in the same areas.

Leaving the big smoke, my FM reception is unusable and I have to switch to CD's.

I am taking it back to the dealer to have it fixed, I suspect a front windscreen antenna may be the solution.

My Two Cents....

Isn't "Tint A Car" one of the specialists that Ford use? I'm pretty sure Byrne ford used them fo their "Factory quality" tint, than again this was a few years back. AU series 1-2 days.

Hi,

The windscreen antenna is made up of very thin adhesive strip that is stuck on to the front screen. It is very thin (Thinner than demister wire) and if done correctly, cannot be seen!

The small amplifier (Booster) module can also be hidden in the pillar.

In some areas the Ford dealers use Tint-a-Car but the dealers in many cases will go with the company that gives them the best deal. The dealer tint that Tint-a-Car install will usually consist of an metallic (aluminium) film on the windups and dyed non-metallic on the rear screen.

If you are intent on retaining some AM reception and you also insist on metallic film the nickel alloy based film (eg like Formula 1) will give less reception problems than the aluminium films but will still give a degraded signal on AM. Catch 22, AM - dyed film lower quality (purple in a couple of years?) or risk the AM - metallic (nickel alloy or aluminium).

An external aerial the best option and go for the good stuff.
