thorxr6t Member 91 Member For: 20y 6m 28d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 15/03/10 04:24 AM Author Share Posted 15/03/10 04:24 AM As it turned out, it wasn't the engine pinging/knocking but the dang turbo heat shield (the large piece) rattling at it touched the turbo from 2000rpm to 2500rpm.I ditched the turbo heat shield and no more rattling/pinging noises! Funnily, my tuner asked what I had filled it up with as soon as backed it up on the dyno. That same week my uncle had an error code on his Lexus IS250 and Lexus told him that he had put in some bad fuel. Turns out that we had visited the same servo that week. Must have been a REAL dodgey batch!Haven't been back since!Unfortunately the Ute had nothing to say as far as warnings....just a noticable knock at idle....didn't notice it at all when moving however my tuner did luckily. Turbo engines put out significant heat (torque=horsepower=heat) and can fry most things known to man.The radiated heat can be pretty phenomenal if driven hard. I started using 98 and havent looked back. I was a tad annoyed that my baby developed a tasted for the heavy stuff. But what ya gunna do.I'd be putting the heat shield back on too.
