How Long Till She Comes On Boost

I have a dilema with my T

It is lacking power and I am trying to find out why.

Boost is reaching 4.5 psi but doesnt seem to make it until over 3500 rpm.

Is this normal can someone with a standard ute and boost gauge confirm.

I have tried all of the stuff mentioned in keithg's post about lacking power and have come up with no solutions.

Some days the T fly's and other days I think that it's a slug.

Why dont you take your car back to the dealer

Mine's doing the same thing !

It was booked in for the 3000km service last week, mentioned that it seemed to be down on power...

They test drove the car (on local suburban roads), claimed that it's OK, the service advisor said "they think that it's one of the most powerful they've driven". Where have I seen that before ? !

But there's practically no turbo whistle until you get close to 4500 rpm!

It's using heaps of fuel, ~15l/100km according to the car, lots of black dust on the rear bumper... (Only ever used Optimax in it, and it does 40/60 highway/city km's.) By comparison, the blood orange seems to have much more "kick" and you can really hear the turbo spooling up (by 3000rpm), and reports ~12l/100km... Both cars are totally "stock" and have had NO upgrades/modifications !

I've already checked the ECU connector (underneath the ECU closest to the front of the car), and the turbo plug (behind the battery).

Going to fit a boost guage this weekend, what brand boost guage did you buy, and where did you get it ? (I'm looking for something small, 10psi max.)

I know what you mean when you say that some days it feels like a slug ! :(

All the dealers do is check for fault codes logged, if there aren't any fault codes, then their attitude is "no problems here" - see here for keithg's experience.

Does anyone know of a decent dyno in/around Chatswood (Sydney) ? I want to see exactly what's going on here !

I've found out with my car that when it was new the you could hardly hear the turbo, but it does get louder with age 4000k's +, I too have noticed when my car was new in heat the thing was an absolute lemon.

My car now has 12000k's on it and it seems to have opened up a lot, so if your cars are new be patient, if not take a baseball bat with you next time you visit the dealer.

I guess that the T must have a built-in boost sensor? Is it possible to hook up a data logger to this ECU input and see what the car is doing ?

Anyone know the location of this input to the ECU ? connector & pin # ? signal type ?

(I guess that this info. must be available somewhere, cause isn't this how the APS/Unichip mod works, by intercepting the boost reading and "lying" to the ECU ?)

I hope u r running premium fuel. 98 ron or better...shell optimax or bp ultimate...hows the temp. down there the hotter they get the worse they perform...it could be your oxygen sensor in the exhaust...try and talk to dynosteve and he will put you on to some one in the syd area..best of luck with the problem.. hope u get full power soooon.

one more thing it could be YOUR VALVE SPRINGS but ford wont pick this up...you will have to take it to the sydney dealer for rdps upgrade kits they will help you out.once again dynosteve should point in the right direction..
