how are you guys launching your ZF's??

when I put shift mine sideways to performance mode, it takes off in 2nd gear if driving normal, but if on WOT it shifts back to 1st and fries the tires to 4th gear.

when you guys are running your times are you using 1st gear to launch?? these ZF's fry tires easier than my old t56!

You're running MT's so grip shouldn't ever be a problem with your power really..

As others have said, on the line, manually select 2nd gear, HARD on the brake, throttle to the 99% position (flooring it will trigger some kind of fail-safe and the box will downshift to 1st and whale off). The car will bite hard on the brakes but as the revs pass through 3000ish, in one co-ordinated action: punch forward into first gear, jump off the brake & floor it. You will feel like you're going to wheel stand and should pull a 1.6-1.7 60' if you've done it right.

I believe the secret to walking away from a hard ZF launch is to not sit on the line under boost for more than a fraction of a second. AS SOON as you pass through 3,000RPM (if you have not already started to turn the tyres if they're a little cold, old or bald) punch first gear and get on your way.

Best of luck

That's the idea.

If you're running street tyres though, I found on the line, normal drive mode, 1800RPM on the brake (1st gear - obviously) then in your own time, come off the brake and essentially 'follow with the throttle' until your foot is flat (so you can sit RIGHT at your limit of grip and adjust throttle to it's maintenance without farking up your run).

It was good for 1.9 60's on some random China 245/35/19s I was running at the time with 280rwkw..

Holy Crap, I would love to see someone actually do this. I dont know if I could punish the zf like that.

Would be an awesome felling launching it that quick. Haha imagine doing it at the lights. 0-80 in about 3 seconds.

underpants, if u shift it forward into 1st gear, wont you have to run the whole strip in manual mode??? :crybaby:

No mate. After you punch first, knock the shifter right then left again. No matter how fast you do this the trans will select performance auto mode again. Performance auto mode has always been the fastest way down the stip with my setup, street tyres or MT ET's :crybaby:

Hmmm apart from making a bit of heat I don't think it would be overly harsh on the trans unless you were sitting there on boost for some time. As long as you're quick getting off the throttle the driveline shouldn't be phased. A few guys have done a tail shaft as it's taking the force of a boosting 4L on converter as the rear end is stationary being held under brakes.

As for doing it at the lights, it would be nice if it were that easy LOL. This was only a little over 2,000 RPM or so...

And this stall got to maybe 2,800 before I let it go...no chance of grip
