If we all keep a eye on each other, all cruises will be a much more stress-free environment. Nothing worse than getting lost somewhere you've never been before, with no CB reception, no mobile phone reception, and the sat nav doesnt work either! :(

Maybe a "labelling system". Maybe have a fluro green label on the cars of Organisers of the cruise. Have a fluro yellow for those with CB's. Maybe even a colour for first timers... Guest Ford Feline Guests Posted 04/04/04 01:14 AM Share Posted 04/04/04 01:14 AM Andrew, I think your rules look great - and I will heed the one about language over the CB. I felt myself blush sometimes at the comments that slipped out...must have been the powertrip brought on my having control of all that grunt in the Blueprint. EVERYONE:I just wanted to say to everyone present on the Snowy trip that I am really relieved and pleased to be reading all this thoughtful discussion (and action) about making the cruises a safer and more pleasant event for everyone. I can relate to the need for speed, but it's a shocking thing to do when you're placing other people (including your own passengers, if applicable) at risk. I really enjoyed the weekend (and really wasn't sure if I would), not only because of the great scenery, but also because of the genuine, friendly people who took part. I often get put off by really 'blokey' events, precisely because they do have tendency to get out of hand and I didn't think the weekend ended up being anything like that. For all these reasons, I look forward to another cruise event that has a culture of inclusion and respect.I also think that the idea of clearly stipulating the rules in a hand-out or similar - and posting them on this website - is a good one. That way there is no ambiguity over what is expected from all participants (including my gutter mouth). As for waiting for people, I think that's all part and parcel of travelling as a group. If you're in too much of a hurry to wait, then why be there as a group at all?Anyway, that's my little contribution. Oh, and I tried to vote on the weekend that David and I can go to the Hunter and it said I had already voted!!??? I know I haven't... How can I fix that?Cheers y'all. As in don't _make_ people buy a CB, by all means encourage it, but don't put an imposition like that on people. I belive most people will buy one after a cruise or two - even if it'sa lowly cheapo handheld the theory is that it will at least cover a few cars in the vicinity when travelling in a group. "Register" each car - as in at the main meet points (and any other stops during the day) make sure people pop their name, a contact number and their Rego onto a list. Maybe do it at each stop, even let people put a arrive/depart time if they like. This creates a movement log, and a 'witness' grouping ... ie if some clown in a HgAg is running independent of the cruise and does soemthing dumb we'll it's not one of our beloved HgAg members. Lets face it we've got to be able to back each other up.It will also show the cop etc if anythign does go wrong that the organisers were monitoring the progress of the cruise all along it. They were noting arrival and departure times for the 'lead' guide and 'tailgunner'. There shoudl always be a CB AND mobile AND First Aid kit (and I mean a decent kit) car last in the line equiped with a couple of decent area maps, and perhaps spare drinking water etc. The notion is that these people can check on stopped members etc help with directions and more importantly if things go pear shaped the 'support' vehicle is not in front of it, rather they approach it witht he correct level of caution/awareness.As for the "Fast group" "slow group" thing it'd be nice to have the option but there are also family/fun days. I don't think anyone wants to explain to their kids why that nice on man "Ken" they had lunch with has left his car parked on its lid in the trees and his head isn't int he right place. I know unlikely, but accidents do happen and the risks on unfamiliar roads, or due to a bit of excessive bravado thanks to the cruise environment can catch people out. From whats going on in the legal arena about "public liability" the key things are showing that organisers are taking due care against foreseeable circumstances. As in have some back-up have good organisation, distribute good clear instructions, have an "emergency plan" is there's an accident. Know where and how the cruise would deal with an accident occuring. Do 45 cars all stop around it and all that or do people who can provide real assitance at the time stay and the remainder travel on to a way-point and so forth? Just some thougths for now A.
