Undoubtably been asked a gazillion times but again I am too lazy to look.

Hopefully in the T tomorrow arvo. I get a fuel card with my car and all costs associated with it are part of my salary package (through work) so I can pick and choose whatever fuel and oil I like.

Living in Canberra what would people suggest is the best combo? Nothing but Premium ULP will be going in it, but which brand is best ? How about synthetic v mineral oil (though I'd guess synth is best)?

Any suggestions for an expectant father ??

VG.

I'm a big fan of Shell (no doubt because of Dick Johnson) and as such have only ever used Optimax in the WRX, Alfa, Mercedes, Mustang and XR8.

As far as oils go I use Helix Ultra synthetic in the WRX and Mercedes. In the Alfa I stayed with Selenium (factory Alfa oil) and the Mustang and XR8 uses Caltex Havoline (very impressed)

All cars were oil and filter changed at 5 thousand kms. I have always done that.

The Dodge is a different beastie! The heads have been modified for unleaded and is a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Therefore I only use BP Ulitmate or Shell Optimax as well as aviation fuel as a mix.

The 440 has only been fed BP Corse+ I have been using Corse Plus since the GTHO days and have found it is a great oil for engine designs of that era as well as the metallurgy used in the head and block.

In summary, try to stay with the fatory fill. Most Ford dealerships have contracts to Castrol, Shell, Caltex or Mobil. The premium oil of the correct weight that is used in these cars is pretty good and if the oil and filter is changed regularly then you are keeping the engine healthy.

$50.00 in engine oil as well as a new filter every 5k is cheaper than a new engine.

Congrats on the new car!

I use Optimax almost exclusively, although I also have a Caltex fuel card if I want to try the other stuff. After the 3K service there was a Castrol sticker on my windscreen, so I guess I use Castrol oil

Being a fellow ACT fuel card type person, but not having a choice as to what. I use BP ultimate and Castrol Maganatec, both of which I can get from BP servos.

That said the BP servos in Canberra are crap, they seem to have run out of Ultimate evey seccond week, and all the diesel pumps leak fom the nozzle, not that you would care about that. But if you drive a diesel it realy $hits you to end up with smelly hands each time you fill up.

My last job came with a fleet/shell card and I much preffered that. As well as better service there were also more to choose from.

I have also had good reuslts from Penrite and Course Plus.

I will keep an eye out for the new T driven by the dude with the rediculous grin :D you can try to stop it, :) but I bet you wont succeed. :D

I've tried all the various PULP and can't say I really notice any difference between any of them. Optimax has the highest octane rating of any PULP available in Canberra which in theory should give the best performance, but unless you drive like Cro :oooh: , you probably won't notice any difference either!

As for oil, Castrol Magnatec is what the dealer puts in my car. I get the oil and filter changed every 5000km.

Well, in the ol' Pulsar SSS I used both the Caltex Premium Unleaded and the Optimax and no real noticable difference.

I've used both in the T and no real noticable difference. But theoretically, 98 RON fuel should be better for the motor. If the engine management system takes advantage of it is another matter.
