Over there, if I read it correctly, it was outsourced to a third party and wasn't backed up by statute. Love one of the comments on that article: Quote The problem in the UK is that there is an inbuilt tendency for every one to act like sheep when it comes to anything "official". It was, I believe, a well know American who commented that the more the people act like sheep the more the government will act like wolves. When I was younger my generation reveled in civil disobedience as a form of protest now it seems we only have sheep and wolves... John K Member 141 Member For: 17y 5m 7d Location: Sydney Posted 23/01/10 07:09 PM Share Posted 23/01/10 07:09 PM (edited) In August, Sept, Oct last year, EVERY speed camera on the Northern Beaches of Sydney was destroyed by fire. EVERY ONE.All replaced now though and I haven't seen any of the new units re-torched, though it wouldn't surprise me at all if they all got burnt again in the next few months. From the original Arizona article, one thing interests me - the fact that mail is not a provable method of delivering the ticket.I wonder if anybody has argued it here lately? In about 1980 I got really cranky when a summons appeared in the mail for an unpaid parking ticket - Some @#$%^&* took the ticket off my car - first thing I knew about it was when I received a summons to appear to contest the fine or alternatively pay the fine and costs (This was in the days when the ticket was left on the windscreen and there were no warnings or reminders sent in the post).I wrote a letter offering to pay the fine only, arguing that had I known I had a ticket, I'd have paid it right away and that it was not my fault that the ticket was left in a place where anybody could walk by and take it.The court told me to shove it up my $%^& and pay the costs. This is my favourite - Trust American kids to run with what is an obvious flaw in the whole speed camera concept!
