Hey all noticed today just after dropping the misses off the temp guage at 3/4. thought OK above normal so pulled in at home and checked everything, no leaks, plenty of coolant in the header tank and thermos running.

Drove to work bout 6 km and watched eagle eyed at the guage, started to rise slowly. got to work and temp bout 3mm from the red just as pulling through front gate temp alarm chimes :beerchug:

thought just got 100m to go to park then I'm ok. just pulling in to park with fingers on key and bout a second before I turn it off the car stops itself. Hope this was the safety feature.

So let it cool down, put a temp gun on the car which I had in it, and thermostat temps about 76 deg C above and below it.

Noticed a slight tapping from the rear valve but cant remember if it was there before or not.

Anyway I started it up about an hour later and it had cooled to 1/4 on the temp gauge still no leaks etc soooo any advice?

Pretty sure it is the water pump so I'll replace it (only $60 for gen) and any tips and tricks of how to do one on a 2002 Ba.

Any help much appreciated. :beerchug:

Id say thermostat too. Had same problem, got the colder thermostat, sits exactly between half and a quarter all the time now even after a good fang.

ANd thermostat fix a dam load easier to do than water pump.

Well cheers fellas $14.95, 5m mins work and all fixed. Phew glad it was the thermostat, was all set to do the water pump and waste a day of the weekend.

Put in the 82 degree C therm and sits exactly between 1/4 and 1/2 like said.

Was gonna go the 71 degree but thought it may be a bit cold for perth? any suggestions to what the optimal on is for our engines? pretty sure it is the 82C but thought I'd check. :beerchug:

80-82 is fine. You may need to get your tuner to tweak your tune so the engine doesn't think it's still in warm up mode.

Cheers good advice, just looked at the old one and its got 82 stamped on it, pretty sure it already had 82 one in it so tune should be right.

Had the temp gun on it after I changed it and all ran ok and coolant started flowing at 80-82 deg.
