We are removing the Built BTR Gearbox out of my Ute and going for a Turbo 400 to handle the power after a lot of research. Did find a mob in Melbourne to warrant a Turbo 700 to 1000 hp but there is too much risk in my eyes. The Ute is used for Street and Strip applications and with the high degree of Highway Km's driven and wanting not be be sitting on 3000 rpm @ 100 km/h there is 2 options (might be more....Anyone) to sort this. First 1 is change the diff gears and the more likely is a Gear Vender, has anyone got/played with this gear.....

Did not want to got for a C4 due to some freinds running 9's and having trouble with them.

With the Ute mainly being a Streeter we went away from a power glide. They are stronger again but the T 400 going in is rated to 2000hp.

Interesting. I am using a 4l65e in my build for the reason that it has OD and can handle about 850hp.

I looked into the GVOD and did a fair bit of research on it. From memory, the base model is rated to 1250hp with a 2000hp version available. The only thing that put me off is the poor integration when it comes to shifting.

Say you start with the trans in 1st then select 2nd when necessary. All good as you've made a single shift or selection. Next you select 2nd over using the GVOD switch. Still all good as you've made another single selection. But if you now want to select 3rd or 2nd, you have to make 2 selections or changes. You have to disengage the GVOD as well as shift the stick on the box. There are timing issues when doing that and you end up getting a double shift effect. That steered me away from a GVOD setup in a daily driver. There were some youtube vids which showed what I'm talking about.

You could use a PG and only use the GVOD as an OD for the highway (2nd over). But spending 3+k for just for an OD is not worth it in my book.

Thanks for the Info and I agree with the highway driving, over time the 3-4K would take a lot of wear and tear + Juice to make it up. We should be able to get 141+ mph on the current diff gears on the T 400 before the torque drops off.

Have spent heaps of hours on the Turbo 700 or 4L65e as a lot of people call this box. I wanted to believe it could handle it but all the Aus trans guys excluding 1 I found said Do Not Do It. Findings are that Monster transmissions (In the US only rate this box to 650hp). But in our cars if you have 650 rwhp it's the equivalent to 1100hp with the high amount of torque, so my tuner tells me. What’s your end goal with you build.

The HP ratings in the US usually refers to rear wheel HP dont they? There's also a difference in torque capability between the different transmissions. The 65 has 5 pinion planetaries compared to 4 in the 60.

Also, one thing I notice is a lot of the US upgrades use "The Beast" sun gear shell. My trans builder tells me that it is too heavy and can cause premature wear issues. The TH400 and 4l80 is also more parasitic than the 350/60/65.

Anyway, I'll be attempting to put around 850hp through a built 4l65e. We'll see how it handles it...

I have a t400 in mine, was in when I bought it. built for 2000hp. does about 3500rpm at 100kmh, I think its still got the standard diff ratio in it, ill find out when we take it apart...what ratio do you have to expect 140mph?

With the built BRT in 3rd gear, 1:1 ratio she sits on 3000rpm @ 100kmph, so yours must be different.

On your T400 what shifter is used and what's it look like (Fit), how did they do the oil lines + mounting of the cooler and info on the cross member would be most helpful.

When the diff was built in mine we went the standard ratio, for memory they are 3.7, A mate with a BA Ute has a C4 in it (So final gear, 3rd is 1:1 same as your T400) with the same diff ratios and has run a 10.1 @ high 130mph but she was getting to the end of the RPM/Torque range, also going on what my Tuner (Blueboost) tells me. If we do have issues with the diff ratio's will change the existing, one of the main things is getting the stall convertor built to what the overall mathematic sum is, going for a 2800-3000 stall so should get out of the hole well but not flare on highway driving.
