It was the recreational drug of choice. That and LSD.Yep the drugs used today are bad. But there is no more a supply now than back then. Might have been easier back then as it was organized crime.Sorry mate , disagree. I am about the same age as you and have experienced the seedier sides of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne over the years. The drugs of choice have changed but there is far more gear out there and it is more accessable now than it's ever been. Australia has the world titleas number per capita consumer of Ecstacy and is right up there with Coke and speed as well.Go out and hit any of the clubs in any city and the joints are absolutely awash with the stuff , and not just the young'un either, though obviously with theclub scene demographic they make up a fair chunk. There is still organised crime , just more of it , more competition , lower prices, lower quality , increased consumption and still cheaper than a night on the syrup

I guess I would not know now if the person next to me was E'ed unless they hugged me and told me they loved me. lolWhat are you going to do. Societies to blame.I know my kids will probably try them as I did. I hope I have instilled enough self respect in them for it not to become a problem.Or enough fear that I will kill them first. As parents all we can do when they get to this age is be there for them no matter what. To all those quick to slam the all those involved, parents included read this.I'm 28...2 almost 3 months after finishing school I began Uni studies as a Graphic designer. One night, one of our friends Scott was having his 18th. We were all under age, and a friends parents (a police sergent) had given his son their toyota tarago for his 4 years of uni... He was an australian long distance runner, and studying human movement science with big things offered to him. We were all studying in rockhampton in central qld. He was a top bloke, very smart, and a straight shooter. No bullsh*t. His dad brought him up a top bloke.Anyhow. I got picked up first, and rode shotgun, we pulled up at the second house on the trip and 3 more hopped in, that makes 5, then made one last stop to pick up 2 more people, 4 hopped in. There was a crowd out the front of the lodge where we made the last pickup so the driver and I, assumed everything was sweet, and continued on the way. All sober, all under age, all heading to the first 18th of the year in our circle of friends...We stopped at a stop sign no more than 1000m from the last pick up stop, and as we crept forward were creamed by a road train. I stayed concious, the only one. f*ck nows how? I hopped out to see two friends laying on the road, one impaled on a post we didn't even know was in the car. 2 DIED. 2 spinals, and the rest of us changed forever. There were 2 beer bottles on the road near the crash... guess what the photo on the front page of the paper was of... the crash, and the bottles in the gutter in the shot too! Everyone at uni 'heard on the news there was 9 in the car, he was drunk and killed two chicks... wanker asshole, bla bla f*ckin bla!' I was in it but riding shotgun didn't know how many people were in it, I counted nine at the scene but that was 2 more than I knew hopped in??? I would have bet my nuts at the time we were sweet for numbers. Being the only person who remained concious I was always the one questioned, was there any drugs, drinking, speeding, tom foolery, nope, did you know they were there, nope. The guy driving's dad was a police sergent... So I copped some pretty hard words and interrogation from him too, and so did his son. He blew in the bag and he was clear, but that never made the news. just he was driving an overloaded car. The news report, and the police reports were 2 different things, and what actually happened was a blur to all those involved, except me... at least I thought till I saw the numbers sitting in the car. Call the driver of the car what you want, be my guest, but HIM, AND HIS 5 PASSENGERS WILL ONLY EVER BE THE ONES THAT TRUELY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT, AND EVEN THEN, THERE IS NO GUARANTEES. as was said in an earlier post, a passenger could have ripped the hand break on, who knows??? My perseption of what happened to us is the only real recolection of that night, and as crystal clear as it is in my head, I'll never be 100% about it, ever.
