It’s good to have a discussion about it but if it turns to sh*t it will all be wasted. On the topic of GPS tracking and speed limiting. LOL. In fact why not fit them to every car in the country? But we better factor them to deal with the lowest common denominator, so they should be restricted to 40km/h to ensure that no speed limits are broken. Otherwise you might get some hot-headed hoon doing 80km/h through roadworks.PS: Very good post SDWAYZ

Guest XR09 Guests Posted 18/01/10 06:16 AM Share Posted 18/01/10 06:16 AM And say a young kid on his P's has a job in Maroochydore and lives in Coolum. What your saying means he cant legally drive to work !!!At one point he will have to get on the motorway and it's a 100kmp/h zone. @ 80kmp/h he will be on the edge of breaking the law as it is illegal to do 20kmp/h under the speed limit on a highway or motorway UNLESS posted otherwise. Or you are a heavy vehicle. You cannot even put "running in" on the back of your car anymore like people use to.You all blame the poor kids. On bikes the biggest death rate is the 40+ y/o. They don't have the kids at home any more, the mortgage is almost gone. And the mag told em the new CBR100RR is the best bike on the road....."I must have one". They think because they rode as a kid or in their twenties they can still do it. Trouble is their old CB750 put out 80 odd hp and weighed over 300kg. A new CBR RR puts out around 170 kw and weighs 180 kg.I watch in disbelief every day at people trying to negotiate roundabouts. The way people use their blinkers is ridiculous. And just plain wrong. At least twice a year I see a car going anti clock wise on them. Strangely most of the ones who get it right are young. Why ? probably because they have recently undergone testing and know the rules.Think what would happen to just 4 teenagers who hit a tree @ 80 on a 100 k road in a Yaris or getz. Or worse a Mitsubishi Van, the most dangerous car on the road.People are people and their are some things you just cant help.Be glad it was not you or someone you know. Stick a postit on your speedo just past 100kmp/h with a note or some sort of reminder. I have a friend who super glued her photo and a luv u note the same way on her sons speedo. Or better still if you are a parent you can now get data logging. Do you really want to go that far??? Because what you inflict on them has to be used on you as well. I teach road safety, and advanced riding. I am an advisor to the QLD minister of transport. I live with my bro who was cleaned up by a semi and unfortunately lived. Do I speed. Shoite yes. Am I an angel ha ha nope. I have a fast car and very, very fast bikes. I love anything you can put petrol in. It's my passion.I think with age we have more commen sense and definately more fear of dying. Why not try actually doing something to help the young instead of being a Norm and just bagging them. To be very good at anything you have to start from a very young age.

It doesn't matter what the goverment/police do ..it will never stop..Speedlimiting cars....well then we complain they hold up traffic....I think alot of this must fall on the parents shoulders..they know their son better than anyone...Parents should be the ones educating their off spring about the dangers of driving....NOT THE GOVERMENT...I have a couple of young boys...and at the age of 6...my youngest is the one I need to watch in the future..Thrill seeker..no fear....always wanting me to overtake cars.......So I've changed my behaivor on the road when he's in my car....Drive slower.Point out police and try and make him think that driving isn't all fun and games...He's s1th scared of the police though....I think we as parents need to understand our children....and pick things up early in life and try and resolve them....as best we can...On the other hand ....maybe we could have some sort of log...like the trucks did in the early days...Were speed is recorded onboard..and once a week or fortnight...its down loaded on a personal computer...or police computer...I know alot of work would have to be done...for change of speed zones and so...but until then parents educate your kids..... Up there with the mentality of the guy who drove himself into the tree I would think. And if this L plater was doing 80km/h, and you came up behind him while glancing down to look at your speed doing 20-30km/h more than him, you would've been more likely to rear-end him and have a collision, than him causing you to crash by overtaking at 120km/h.Use your head. Not sure what state you live in but in NSW all L platers can only do 80km/h on all roads including freeways, I'm yet to see a L plater be rear ended on a freeway for doing the speed limit of 80km/h.I'm not kidding anyone, but I live in a rural region and have seen numerous accidents mostly P platers, some fatal. The carnage I see from people doing over 100km/h is FAR FAR worse than people doing under. A mate I went to school with had several accidents and one got the better of him. First accident he hit a ditch and rolled at 90km/h and very luckily got out, only little cuts and bruises, a year later on the same stretch of road doing 120km/h lost control hit the ditch again and never made it, apparently the additional speed threw him further and he hit several trees that he didn't hit before. I know there are other determing factors at slower speeds that can be fatal. Edited 18/01/10 06:35 AM by BLK6T

They shouldnt change the age or change the vehicle limit further than what it already is because I can guarantee I or anyone can get any car up to 145+ km/h jam 6 people in and kill them all. You cant fix something unless you kill the issue from the source and it all starts when the driver gets their licence (excuse the pun)My best mate went for his p's two and a bit years ago about a month after the new laws came in and when he sat his test then instructor ran the test for no longer than 5 minutes and passed him on what little he saw. About a month and a half later he was in parramatta infront of Westfields and managed to drift his car around the corner, spin 180 degrees and end up sitting on the wrong side of the road 50 cm's from a bus. His car had 5 people including himself in the car. After he spun out a person came running towards him yelling stop ! stop! he then drove down a bus lane ran a red and went home. later that night he had a knock on the door from an undercover police officer whi made he make a statement at the police station. He was summond to appear in court a month later. In the mean time he was able to perform a illegal u turn exceed the speed limit and be caught without p plates within 5 weeks of getting his red p's. When he appeared in court the judge made him attend 10 weeks of safe driving school whereby he must attend once a week however the penalty for the offence was adjourned for a following 10 court appearances. Finally 11 months after the offence, the judge issued him with a $100 court fine and gave him a 1 month suspended penalty. (He did lose his licence for the other offences in the time between ) He got his red p's at the age of 17 and he is now 19 going on 20. He is still on his red P's and is not due to progress to his full licence until mid 2012. I attended a AAMI defensive drivers course last year and that had taught me a lot of skills which I think all new drivers should be taught before its too late. a lot of new red p platers I know get their licence and think they are king of the road. THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING!!!!! and when people are in the car with you and when there are peoples lives at risk other than yur own its not the time! You can control your own fate but dont try and control others!DON'T PENALISE THE SMART YOUNG ONES COZ THE STUPID YOUNG ONES CANT CONTROL THEMSELVES!
