Advice On Getting Tuned

I am after some advice on getting my car tuned and rough costs involved.

At the moment the car doesn't have any mods however I think I will add an F6 Snorkel before tuning since it wont cost much to do. What sort of power (rwkw)/ running differences am I going to get between the different capa flash tuner models and is it worth spending more on the better one. From what I can tell loading the generic tune on these isn't advised and getting a custom tune is the way to go, so what sort of $ would I be looking at to get the custom tune using one of the capa flash's? Also where do people reccomend for SE suburbs of melbourne?

Thanks for the help in advance guys.

How much do you have to spend? Both HPF and Pitlane are good places to go to!

Worth looking at THIS THREAD and doing some searching around the forum! There is tonnes of info here!

Thaks mate that's a lot of great info there.

I think I will look at the F6 Snorkel and a Tune/Flash Box, maybe also a high flow cat if budget allows. Dont really want to spend over $2000 at the moment. So after doing these mode the injectors will be the limiting factor and does it casuse a problem? Or only if wanting higher numbers?

If I was to get cat and injectors fitted by a mate who is a mechanic to save money would the car be ok to drive for a few days until it goes to tuner or could it cause damage not having it tuned straight away? And now larger injectors in do I HAVE to get new fuel pump?

Oh and its a BF mkII

A cat change you could get away with, by taking it easy and not giving it a bootful. The injectors on the otherhand would pump way too much fuel than required and it will run like a pig.. Dunno how much damage it would cause but it cant be good...

No you dont HAVE to put a new fuel pump in, but its good as you can run more power safer, they are fairly cheap and if your mechanic mate can install it your laughing...

I would go, injectors, pump and tune first up... Doint it in stages like I assume you are is a good way IMO and a BFII is an awsome base to start with..

if you dont have funds, dont go modding the xr.

Else, capa + 60lb injectors + intercooler + remove middle muffler. Valve springs will be fine for now.

Will set you back about 1k for just capa + tune. injectors u can buy for bout 300$ + 1hr labour. Middle muffler removal will be bout 1 hr labou for zorst shop and to put a pipe there. Dont know what bf mkII intercoolers are rated at. But if your going for only about 270rwkw then dont bother changing the cooler either. Just do capa + tune + inj + remove muffler. Tune it to only 98ron.

Take it to AVO in cheltenham or Mick @ Pitlane Performance in FRANKSTON

You can mod these cars no matter how long your money is tbh... The level of modification will be different depending on how much you spend which is obvious.

HPF did one of their shows which involved a custom tune on a bog stock FG XR6T... I think it pulled 270rwkw from a base figure of around 230rwkw... At that time they were charging around $750 for the tune.

If you dont want to spend more than 2k then get xcal and injectors and if you have cash left over then hi flow cat. With your mechanic friend helping you you should be able to do this for your price range. just get it towed to the tuner and dont try to drive it.

I wouldnt bother with the intake at all and stock fuel pump is good for 280-300 so save your money.

As for which tuner to go to. I dont get my car tuned at a different tuner every time so unfortunately I dont know which one is best. Just make some phone calls or drive around a bit and meet them. I'm sure everyone on here including me will tell you their tuner is the best.

oh and :busted1:
