Hey guys,

I've gotta help my sister move house this weekend, so I'll be using the ute. I think I'm probably going to have to take the hardlid off.

Just curious on how easy it is to take off and put back on. I've been searching around and found alot of threads about poor fitment and the hinges giving way. If its gonna be a bastard to get it back on a lined up perfectly like it is now I won't do it.

Car is a BFII with a one piece hardlid with the hump.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Keelan

I would suggst 2 people to get it off and 3 to put it back on. The first time is a bit of a bitch but once you work out how to line it up then only 2 is needed to get it back on.

and its just a matter of unclipping the gas struts and then unhooking the little bar things up near the cabin?

Took mine off yesterday to put in a high load.1)Had my young bloke stood up on the tailgate and hold the lid in the open position. 2) pulled out 2 x front wire clips using 13mm open ender &undid gas struts from the bottom connnecting points.3) lower lid down carefully.4) one person each side to lift off and put on tarp so I wouldnt scratch the lid. Found it pretty easy to put back on and line up the front clips as long as someone is holding it open , when putting clip through hinge the person holding the lid might just have to jiggle the lid a fraction to get the clip home.

That was benefit of my roller shutter on my last ute, just roll open the shutter for tall loads.

Mine is an FG with the hump (EGR) brand. Good luck with the moving

Made Typo above- meant to say at (2) is that when removing gas struts from the bottom connections I used 13mm open ender on these fittings.

Back when i had my ute i perfected the single person lid removal (im 6 foot so if your a midget and have stumpy girly arms you may be out of luckwith this method)

place blanket/trap/whatever on the ground to portect lid

open lid

lower tailgate

lift lid remove rh strut(twist the as you pull and they will pop straight off the pivot ball. no need to remove the clips)

lift lid again remove lh strut

Lower lid (watch your fingers!)

stand on tailgate and lift lid

walk into the ute until the lid is vertical

place one had on each side of the lid

lift up

turn to your right (or left if yout that way inclined)

lift lid over the side of the ute and lower onto blanket/tarp/whatever

Lean lid against ute and climb down

place lid in suitable safe place:

:o

can't comment for Bf/Fg lids but Ba lids can be place on the hinges with out the painted surface touching the ground. They can also be leant up against the side of the ute as the fabric lining wont scratch your paint

much much easier with 2 people tho!
