Your best bet would prob to cash in the remaining rego with the transfer papers that the current owner signs over to you.As for the permit to drive it home unregistered, you will probably find you are going to need 2 permits....one for NSW and one for Vic...could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the permit only cover for 3rd party personal in the particular state they are purchased from.Cheers,Ben

Interstate purchasers of a NSW-registered vehicle must therefore transfer the NSW registration into their name, then cancel the NSW registration and register the vehicle in another State in order to claim a refund.so basically all I need to get from him is a receipt of sale, current rego papers AND a NSW rego transfer of ownership form with his half filled out and signed, then I can leave for home without stopping in sydney RTA?? Posted 14/01/10 10:43 AM Share Posted 14/01/10 10:43 AM the nsw rego papers have a "Notice of disposal/Registration transfer details" on the back of them to change ownership. Also has a bit for sale price so I reckon that is usually good enough for proof of purchase
robbo k Member 414 Member For: 16y 9m 28d Location: Wollongong Posted 14/01/10 11:28 AM Share Posted 14/01/10 11:28 AM the seller can complete a online form to say he is not the owner of the car no more. I dont know if it works for out of state ppl but I have done it 2 times when sellin last to cars so if the car gets a fine the person that has brought it gets the fine as its in there name. rta just waits for them to go in and pay the fee
