Well not quite limiting, but it won't be too far away...

Hoon drivers to be used in test of government's new GPS speed device Antonia Magee From: Herald Sun January 13, 2010 10:33AM

LEADFOOT drivers will be used to test the State Government's new GPS speed device designed to curb speeding.

Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas this morning launched Intelligent Speed Assist - a special GPS speeding device that warn drivers when they go over the limit.

More than 60 repeat offenders will be among 500 drivers chosen to test the technology in a three-month trial later this year.

The GPS speed-mapping technology is also used in London and in Sweden. The device gives an audible beep that tells drivers they are over the speed limit.

"The device has been designed to assist motorists to manage their speed," Mr Pallas said.

"The ISA devices use advanced Speed Limit Mapping technology funded by the TAC and developed by VicRoads to identify and record speed limits across the Victorian road network."

The State Government has invested $2 million and the technology will be available free to anyone who has a GPS system.

Most GPS units can do that already so why would the clowns be reinventing the wheel?

As soon as you go over the speed limit, an EFTPOS receipt is printed from below your on dash GPS and then it is automatically deducted from your credit card.

+ a $2.00 transaction fee.

You can also buy back lost demerit points for $260.00 inc gst Each to a maximum of 6 per year.

You dont need a GPS unit, everybody here has a car that already has this feature built in. Its called Overspeed. Its actually better as it requires a human input also.

What a waste of 2 million dollers.

(oh wait they will recoup that when they flick a switch to start automatically fining you)
