Need Help On Used Tornado Pricing

Hi guys,

First time poster long time reader. I would like to grab some opinions if I could on the pricing of used 2005 BA MKIIs and BF F6 tornados.

The short of my long story is that I have recently purchased a 2005 BA Mk2 Tornado from a dealer and I will potentially be recieving compensation for a mistake that the seller made.

Basically I want to know your thoughts on pricing on the following two cars.

Car 1

2005 FPV F6 Tornado BA Mk2, manual (of course), rapid yellow, 29 000km travelled and in immaculate condition for age with no scratches etc, with leather seats as the only option. No hard cover, spoiler, sports bars or Brembo brake upgrade.

Car 2

2005 FPV F6 Tornado BF, manual, rapid yellow, 29 000km travelled and in immaculate condition for age with no scratches etc, with leather seats as the only option. No hard cover, spoiler, sports bars, premium sound etc.

Basically both cars are they same however Car 1 is a BA mk2 and Car 2 is a BF with the standard options over the BA mk2 (Brembos and traction control only I think).

Redbook suggests Car 1 could be sold privatelty for anywhere between $25,400 and $28,400.

Redbook suggests Car 2 could be sold privatelty for anywhere between $29,800 and $33,200.

I have applied the prices from Redbook as a guide to help me out and have concluded that using the upper threshold (considering both cars condition and mileage) for both cars a difference of $4,800 seems about the mark.

Do you think that the difference of $4,800 is about the mark or am I way off. I realise that pricing used cars is so dependant on a number of factors and can be very subjective, but I was just seeing the opinions of others in the know.

did the dealer sell you a BF that was really a BA ??? check ya paperwork but I wouldnt be happy at all if that was the case!!

BF would have, the other utes got it from then onwards. None of them got DSC though.

Your reasoning looks fairly sound to me Brenton - so WTF did actually happen?

The dealer advertised the car as a BF and I purchased the car for a price that I thought was reasonable for a BF tornado with the above mentioned features. A little bit of investigation and I found out that the car I purchased is actually a BA MkII which has a significantly lower resale than the BF. So the minute I drove the car out of there it had depreciated no less than a few thousand dollars. All I am seeking is compensation for the immediate loss in resale value in the car being a BA MkII and not a BF.

I reckon you are entitled to compensation for that fark up on the dealers behalf... genuine fark up/dodgy advertising whichever it is, its the dealers fault and should come out of his pocket..

Guaran-farken-tee you though they wont like the redbook valuation and will more than likely drag their wholesaler/trade-in dude over who will try and tell you that they really give SFA difference in value to BA-BF and will try and palm you off with $1-2k... I'd be wanting $3.5-4k otherwise nuke the deal and give the car back

Bugger that, I'd be pushing for at least $5K or it's all off and pay a visit to your respective state's department of fair trading mob.

The old bait and switch tactic, oldest trick in the book. Could have been a genuine error...but if so they'd be more than willing to rectify it.

when I was looking for a tornado.. same thing happend to me.. but I had did alot of reserch an new what was what.. so I did not get scamed..

its your fault as much as it is the dealers..

you should have looked them up.. Bf has brembos standard.. diffrent front bumper... red rear calipers.. unlike blue on ba...

Silver interior I think on the bf? compard to a dark grey colour on the ba's...

But yes even if you didnt do your reserch its still up to the dealer to give the real details on the car.. especialy the model an what not..

Bit harsh...easily said with the benefit of hindsight. You'd like to think you could at least trust that they are selling you what they claim

I would take the car back and make them find you a BF Tornado, When I was looking at turbos, I signed a contract for what was supposed to be a BF XR6 Turbo after signing and starting the finalisation I went out for a smoke and to have an unattended look at the car and found MKII badges which I had originally overlooked checked a bit further and found it was a BA MKII so told them to tear up the contract and that I wouldnt be dealing with them again.
