I've learnt so much from this forum.. I hope this helps someone. Had an annoying metal to metal sound when hittin bumps, reflectors, cracks inthe road you name it, I had to drive with the tunes up load to drown out the tapping noise. Turned out to be the hand break arm/lever thingy that the cable connects to was hitting the break cover. All was done to fix it was tightened the 10mm nut located roughly in the middle of the car to tighten the cable enough so the lever can't touch the brake cover/shield and the wheel still turns freely (easiest way to find the tightening thingY is just follow the hand break cable from the rear breaks toward the front of the car ya can't miss it). Quickest way to check if this fix applies to you is to run over some bumps and pull the hand brake lever up abit and see if the noise goes away.. Ahh peace and quiet finally :)

Done this job today again...I'm a godam expert at it...I've had enough falcodores which have incredibly similar brakes.....

Tightening the cable adjuster is like using a bandaid for a tampon..it'll work for a bit then..well you know.

Only way to fix this is to back cable adjuster right off, and then adjust the park brake drum/shoe clearance. I like to pull off the discs for a little look plus it's hard to adjust thru the hole provided. Then finally adjust the nut under the car, but not too tight the noise will come back and the cables will stretch.

Do it right and the noise will not come back for a long time and the handbrake will hold on angles up to almost vertical...even on a BA

A lot of people say these are crap handbrakes.

Adjusted correctly they work brilliantly and don't go SHH SHH SHH...

I'm gonna have to steal that one!

I got the old SHH SHH SHH but it will disappear if I pull on handbrake slightly then release when driving. Why does this stop the sound??
