OK I am looking at fixing up my trans at last. Had enough of it flarring up. What stallie to go for with my current power of around 300 rwkw to get that power down better? 2500, 2800 or higher??

If your not going to be drag racing at the track I wouldnt bother putting one in it. If you intend to then 2800 is perfect for these cars, you will use slightly more fuel with a convertor, also you will need a descent trans cooler, that should be fitted from the day you bought the car, as heat effects lifespan of the trans.

If you keep it to around 2800rpm you'll barely notice the difference in driveability. It will launch better and allow the turbo to come on boost in the gears a little quicker. You'll still be able to tow and cruise with barely a difference. Fuel economy isn't an issue either.

I got a modified and upgraded factory converter from TCI in NSW. Still going strong after about 16 months and 35,000 odd kilometers. Best part was the price. $450 from memory. I might be able to get one a little cheaper.

BTW, I don't run a trans cooler with 370rwkw and I haven't had a single sign of a problem from the auto in 18 months+. But I'd put that down to RVO's care in building the things.

Trust me, you want a converter :)

Is that a lockup convertor Straughsberry? I wont be drag racing mine either but it just seems a bit laggy down low now.

Do you think a stall will get me moving quicker at the lights even if I dont stall it up and just floor it?

I use my 330rwkw tune all the time and now have 595rsr's fitted which have been amazing for grip so no burning tyres anymore!

Yes retains factory lockup function. It definitely will launch harder. Even without stalling it up as it will flash to 3000+rpm and allow the turbo to spool up nicely. It really is a great match for a factory style setup. Not too big, not too small.

had a 2800 dominator in my car. was good for 300rwkw... now that im running way over 350 I needed to up the stallie. running 3500rpm. depends how much power your looking for. if your not goin over 330, stick with 2800.

Also ask for a TCE not a dominator. Especially if you go through bayswater auto's. I had heaps of issues with their auto and with thier dominator convertor.
