The ring will seal just need to make sure no welding excess is proud of the surface. This took about an hour with a round file and 800 grit sandpaper. Use your fingers to guide the file to prevent disturbing the ring surface. The welding was free for me but even a workshop should only charge you about $20-30. I bought a 5mm drill bit and M6 tap for $16. The place where I bought them will lend me a handle when it gets time to tap.
