They're limited to 18000 rpm. But my point is that if 800hp from 2.4 litres N/A is achievable (albeit at the pinnacle of engine development), why does 700hp from 4.0 litres N/A sound unachievable?

hey mate

my car is making a similar sound also, at idle I can hear it after a decent drive, and also on the freeway its I can hear it fairly loud.

it sounds like its coming from near the injectors or fuel rail? around that area, could be lifters though, not too sure.

did you end up finding out what it was?

I think I may have the same problem also.

would it have anything to do with the injectors or fuel rail?

and would it be bad for the motor to drive it in that condition or is it alright for short term till the bank permits :)

mucked about with my mate and turns it out its a blocked or dodgy injector. . possibly bad batch of fuel or something stupid but yeah gave her a guzzle of injector cleaner and it seems to be getting quieter so guess that's the problem . .

relief in one way but having an excuse to cam it was so tempting haha

I think you might find that you will never acheive a high enough rpm out of a 4.0 litre inline 6. to get anywhere near that power figure think of piston speed at 6000rpm let alone anything higher. remember the huge stroke on these motors at 99.3mm. I could be wrong though you never know these days

F1 motor was designed from the outset to make that power, with a huge budget and limited life span.

4L NA Ford motor was designed to drive family around town.

hey guys

after a while of trying a few things, ITS STILL TICKING!!!

I tried injector cleaner, didnt do anything, put it on my auncles dyno, had a quick look, injectors where fine, replaced the fuel filter & gave it a service, just in case the oil that was put in was too thin, but still its ticking.

I dont think it would be anything else then the lifters than im aware of.

anyone got thoughts or ideas????

well if it isnt a buggered lifter. it could be a slightly bent valve. (for your sakes I hope not). but they do tick slightly. it is more noticable on an exhaust valve because they pop out of the exhaust aswell. but yeah people will have to hear it to diagnose it properly. haha these motors tick do all kinds of things;)

First of all Steph, anything is achievable LOL, however 700hp N/A would not be street driven at all, the amount of Comp & rpm required to make that number would be way beyond the realm's of pump fuel :spit: However 300hp + 400hp NOS YES more than achievable champ.. :beerchug:

Just my humble opinion lOL (700rwhp N/A no problem, however 100K minimum fella's race only..)..

It would idle at 2800-3000rpm, rev to 13800-14400rpm, it would require 140+ octane to run, because it would be running a minimum of 16-17 to 1 compression, it would also run a 30 thousand dollar ignition system.. Just as a start LOL.

This would be a very serious engine fella's..... (I would privately love to develop something like this people, however these things a far from cheap).
