xrt Member 160 Member For: 16y 9m 26d Posted 22/12/09 11:21 AM Share Posted 22/12/09 11:21 AM im after some opinions from people.is manually downshifting in the 4 speed auto bad for the box?im not talking anything excesive, usually while slowing down I would probably drop it back to third around 65 - 70kays then to 2nd at around 45 - 50kays, then let it go into first its self once im stopped.at those speeds though you can still feel it engine braking.ill be getting a tune soon to the high 200rwkw maybe very low 300rwkw mark and all ill be doing to the box is a service and a transcooler.but id like to give the gearbox the best chance it has ,ideas? the thought of it harming the box never really crossed my mind until now.cheers. I drive my rebuilt BTR like that and it still shifts and feels as crisp as day 1. It may wear down hard parts a little more but it's fun Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/64538-downshifting-stock-4speed/#findComment-965494 Share on other sites

If you wanna prolong the life of ya tranny I dont think its wise.. xrt Member 160 Member For: 16y 9m 26d Posted 23/12/09 07:34 AM Author Share Posted 23/12/09 07:34 AM fair enough, whenever I have to suddenly brake on the road I seem to do it without even thinking now days.maybe ill just do less then downshift when im ready to accelerate again. I just hate the car choosing the gear for me!!! Have done so for over 40k now with no problems.I always downshifted in Brisbane through the Toowong hills so I was in 2nd gear down the hill so I didn't have to brake at all for the 300mt's of it.At the same token I wouldn't put it back to 2nd gear while doing near 100km/h so be sensable with it.
