You can always apply for an exemption, but if you do have a serious crash as 1.30 am, miles away from your place of employment then I would be seriously reading my (or the bosses) insurance policy as I am thinking it will end up biting you on the bum.. The authorities are not that stupid.. :)

I was told by Vicroads that I can drive my car to work, as long as I can prove to the Police if I do get pulled over that I am in fact driving the car to/from work. They didn't say anything about why did you buy a turbo etc?, all I needed was a letter from my employer saying that I was in fact driving to work.

why dont they just implement a better driver training scheme for all L and P platers, make them view accident footage and trauma etc.. do defensive driving courses etc.. but that of course would require some kind of lucrative incoming cash flow to the govt coffers.. they really need something that costs fark all to implement yet rake in cash hand over fist while having the appearance of actually benefitting the community... oh snap !!

What about if you were full time Cruise Control for a turbo forum?

Would that have any thing to do with your work requierments?

Don't really get what you mean by that.

forum .. that's a hobby. Are you making money off this forum? If you are employed by the business that supports it, then that's sort of a different story then. Still.. I'd like to see someone try.

How many people have you spoken to at vicroads? They're all a bunch of deadsh*ts who have no clue anyway. Everyone of them says something different.. and this isn't ONLY about exemptions. Various other things aswell.

They do. These are called 'restrictions.'

Really.. it does fark all, and just "appears" to benefit the community when it doesn't.

And there is no way they would implement defensive driving courses. It costs way too much money.. so unless it was compulsory and you HAD to pay for it, they won't do it.

The won't implement it because to many people will complain about paying for it. Vicroads is an organisation that tries to make a profit, not a loss. Exactly the same with the government.

They don't give a sh*t, aslong as their making their money and 'appearing' to be implementing schemes that work.

Why do they appear to work?? Because most of our community are fed bullsh*t statistics by these organisations like vicroads and the government.. and they ACTUALLY BELIEVE THEM!

It's an automatic exemption at vicroads, you don't have to apply.

You are correct.

However, I see no point in bothering with buying a turbo if the only place you'll ever drive it is to and from work, or in the course of work duties.

If pulled over and caught otherwise, you'll recieve a fine.

Let's hope you have a decent boss who'll write you a note ay ;)

Suppose it's abit of dodging the bullet, but up to the individual.

The only reason I did was because I'm off my Ps in feb, and didn't want to get a car I could drive on my Ps but then be disappointed with when I have my full licence. Driving it to work and back is good so then I don't get tempted (as much) to drive it on weekends. Lucky my boss did write me a note, but being a subcontractor with an ABN I'm pretty sure I could have done it myself.

If you acquired your Victorian Probationary license (P Plates)

BEFORE July 1 2007

-You must have a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of 0.0 at all times

-You may drive anything with less than 125kw/tonne and 3.5l/tonne- If the vehicle breaches both of those restrictions you may NOT drive it, however if just one restriction is breached, you may drive the car

-You may drive V8, turbo & supercharged vehicles as long as they meet the restrictions above

Of some interest as it says if just one restriction is breached you may drive it, obviously these cars and less than 3.5L/tonne, being a 4L with 1694kg. Can anyone clarify this?

They are trying to keep a safe power to weight ratio to keep the acceleration times down. Same as the restrictions on bikes. LAMS.

IE 0-100 times in 9 sec or more. But as cars come in petrol and diesel and gas etc they have tried to cover all bases with as little words as possible. IE the little 1.4 diesel turbo's that are coming out of Europe. God knows what next, supercharged hybrids ??

Here in Qld we have only just changed the BOC levels. Before if you were over 25 and on P's you could have BOC of .05. But no more.

As for driver training. I went to school in the states in the late 60's and they had driver ed at school then. Here ... nothing still.

Yes it is dear for a day at the driver training centers. $300 or more. But I am yet to hear a customer say it wasn't a fair deal. Most say it was one of the best days they have had. And the repeat customers are proof of that.

Your av. driver takes 3.5 seconds just to realize they are in trouble and get their foot on the brakes. And they never look for a way to drive out of trouble. @100k's you are traveling across the ground at 28m per second. do the math. Your 6 pots are not going to save you. Not when your traveling behind someone @ 1.5 to 2 seconds.

All drivers turn in to early, so on the exit you have only one option and that is running wide. Not a good option on the road, hence the cones we put on the corners. Have a look how many are left standing at the end of the day.

So many try to turn the wheel with their body like it a joy stick instead of a wheel. They get about half a lock on when the ass slips out a bit and then they have no hope of regaining control when it snaps back.

We also teach you to use your eyes. Braking points, turn in points and idiot recognition. You should not turn in till you can see most of the way through the corner.

It also helps you keep your cool when your car does get out of shape on the road. How to react without losing it physically and emotionally. If you are use to the car getting sideways then your going to be a lot more under control when it happens in a panic situation.

It might be dear but it's the best mod you can do for your car, yourself and for your family. Ask anyone that's done one.
