I think doing defensive driver courses and the such are a good idea, its way too easy to get your licence. I got mine after going for a 10 minute drive from vicroads, round like 4 streets and doing a 3 point turn. Far too easy.

Also turbohead, are you from vic??

L-Platers should not be allowed to drive big V8's/Turbos.

Then the arguement comes in, "I learned to drive in a V8/Turbo so that means I should e able to drive it on my P's

L-platers should be restricted as P-platers are

WHY shouldnt they?

What reasoning do you have behind your statements?

A car being 8 cylinders has nothing to do with the power it makes.

GENERALLY it may make more than a 6 cylinder.. but there are plenty of 8s around there that'll do a 1/4mile in over 20seconds. hardly powerful.

The idea behind why L platers ARE allowed to drive high powered vehicles is; L platers have a lisenced driver next to them, therefore, are completely safe.

Good isn't it??!

I drove my old mans xr6t for two years on my Ls, and I tell you what, the amount of experience I gained in that, would far surpass having restrictions on my Ls. It's certainly made me a much safer driver on my Ps, with regards to driving and controlling a powerful car, and the need for constant vidulance on public roads DUE to that.

However, the problem is not that kids are driving them.. as generally I do agree that they would be, and ARE safer than a P plater driving them, as a P plater doesnt really have a parent in the passanger seat telling them off.

It is mainly the lisenced drivers' attitude that would cause a problem for the L platers, allowing them to partake in illegal activities whilst driving, and not instilling the right attitude, knowledge, or respect for the vehicle.

It's definately a 50/50.. But I'd have more of a probablem with heaps of P platers skating around in xr6Ts than L platers.

I'm just yawning at yet another thread ending up in a discussion about what the rules for power restrictions etc should and shouldn't be - nothing personal :beerchug:

So for arguement sake Daddy has a 500HP GT. Kid is on his L's with limited experiance but he is alowed to drive

it on his/her L's? Im sorry there is no margin for error.

L-Platers should be limited to nothing more than 2000cc unmodified vehicles

The government should be investing in training L and P-platers instread of all these speed cameras

If your a decent parent, you should be able to teach your kids to drive in anything regardless of power or weight. I learnt to drive in a tickled V8 Kingswood (LOL) and it didnt do me any harm. Was the only car we had so we had no choice. From there I worked hard and my first car was a wrx.

I've said it before but I did a lot of track days and driver training and while that's all well and good, its all 100% irrelevant if some dickhead runs a red light / stop sign / drifts into my lane at 100kms at hour / drink driving etc etc. Its not good drivers that crash, its the idiots and it doesnt matter what car they drive or even if they hold a license, they'll still find a way.

ok well the day I turned 16 and got y l's my dad through me in his gen xy gt toploader because he said he wanted me to learn how to drive a car with no power steering no breaks and that is basically just a pig to drive before I drove a modern car that basically did evereything the xy didnt, now this was the first manual car I had driven and let me tell u after u can drive one of them big tanks around anywhere u really appreciate how hard it must of been back in the day, but it really helped me alot because they are not the easiest cars to learn in. now since I have had my p's I have had a vs clubsport a pritty tuff xr6 t and now another xr6 t that went 9.98 140mph and I have not had a accident or much trouble with the police at all just 1 over power fine with my first xr6 t.
