why dont they just implement a better driver training scheme for all L and P platers, make them view accident footage and trauma etc.. do defensive driving courses etc.. but that of course would require some kind of lucrative incoming cash flow to the govt coffers.. they really need something that costs fark all to implement yet rake in cash hand over fist while having the appearance of actually benefitting the community... oh snap !!

Then you'll get the group of idiots who already think they are invincible with some driver training are now the next Lewis Hamilton and they'll end up wrapping themselves around a tree. I really do not care if they kill themselves but sadly, that's often not the case.

Only need to look at one of the XR6T.com night cruises many moons ago in Freo. Hero in Late model camira comes to E-Shed, starts showing off and reading the paper the next day revealed coming out of Freo he crashed, one passenger died (I think) and one lost her leg after being thrown out the window.

People are fairly desensitised to trauma these days so that doesnt work as efectively anymore. The mid to late 90's proved that with rotten.com et al.

We can remove the trees from the side of the roads, cushion the corners with pillows and even have cars which correct themselves if they veer across the lines ( only this morning I had a semi come into my lane on Kalamunda road and im very fortunate I was paying attention as truck driver had NFI..) but there will never be a way to stop dickheads on the roads killing innocent people.

mat, I recall that, the chick was wearing a seatbelt, but the chassis tore in half when the VT/Y hit the pole, she lost a leg and had parts of her skull on another car.

lots of ppl saw it coming, and well it happened.

it doesnt matter what training, what cars they are in, people are going to kill themselves, or yet worse still, innocent ppl

:buttrock:

Then what great new initiatives would YOU propose to stop accidents(/or fatal accidents)?

Most driver/rider instructors I know are very aware of their capabilities.

Just because you have an instructor/assessor license does not make you a great driver. the theory is much harder than the practical they put you through.

But we do spend a lot of the day in pseudo critical situation. So in a real scenario, we react, our training comes through, and most times we will survive.

With bikes mainly we can sort the idiots our very quickly and sometimes quite harshly. I don't suffer fools when it comes to my job.

And yes in cars we can make a fool of them easily enough. We can turn the whole group on them quite easily if we have to.

Education from an early age is the only way too go. Fines only hurt the poor.

If you like to play, you should do two courses a year.

Insurance companies should compensate for your experience.

It is all simple logic. But unfortunately it involves politics and that's where it goes to shoite.

blah blah blah yep but you can try as much as you like but we will never stop accidents and we will never stop fatalities unless you remove all cars from the roads so my great initiative is to spend my driving time keeping myself alive by paying attention, trying to anticipate what other drivers are doing and avoiding the idiots. Its a very selfish way of looking at it, but as long as my family and freinds stay safe on the roads im happy

The road toll is increasing every year and as Australia grows in population, it will only continue to get worse.

Stupid people will find away to drive (there is a sh*tload of unlicensed drivers in perth for example) so even though you can try and prevent it, they'll find a way and its those people who are causing the damage

Have these restrictions helped reduce the statistics?

I'm curious, I haven't heard one way or another. I suppose they will put out some results since it is the new year now, if they haven't already.

:beerchug: I seriously don't know who you're preaching to.. but it's common sense that fatalities will never reach zero on our roads.

However, if I ever have children, I'd sure as hell be putting them on the track, skidpans, and through defensive driving courses, and I'd be teaching them the right attitude, rather than leaving it all up to chance and just tell them they should 'try to stay alive by paying attention and keeping away from idiots' .. :hmmm:
