Hickdeads Member 14 Member For: 17y 26d Posted 17/12/09 11:20 PM Share Posted 17/12/09 11:20 PM Car details - 2005 XR6T Ute, Flash tuned and dyno tuned in 2007Yesterday it shat itself. Ford have advised that the spark plug has shattered and the engine has lost compression. They think that the conrod has broken and the piston has pushed up into the plug smashing it to pieces. I dont know a hell of alot about cars but mates that do say that this is very unusual. Questions are1. Does this sound right/likely? Would this be because it was poorly tuned?2. Anyone know a good place to get it fixed in SW Sydney(Liverpool)

Bad fuel, a lean tune, fuel pump failure, thrashing on a hot day (lean out again), fuel surge due to low fuel level etc etc.Was it just tuned, or was there more work done? Did it blow when you were racing or what?

I had some initial problems with it but took it back to the guys that did it and they fixed it and havent had a real problem since. Wasnt racing in the slightest. Just cruising. I dont give it a thrashing at all really. As much as you can in suburban peak hour traffic anyway. Never been to a race track or anything. Try calling JEM (ingleburn) or Crescent Motorsports (Liverpool) for a local choice, alternatively there is CV Performance at Taren Point, or Autotech Engineering at Granville. The last two are forum sponsors and really know their way around these cars.

Did you hear a loud bang and then silence?
Hickdeads Member 14 Member For: 17y 26d Posted 06/01/10 01:52 AM Author Share Posted 06/01/10 01:52 AM Well for anyone interested I have been hard at working with the old man taking my expensive paper weight apart and have discovered something that is puzzling to say the least. Its taken several days on and off working on it over xmas, and in excess of 10-12hrs labour but we finally got the head off and discovered what caused my car to crap itself. We started by removing the obvious. Rocker cover, Cam etc. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/hickdeads/05012010003.jpgWhen it came time to remove the head we were completely astonished to find sitting there on top of the piston, what can only be described as part of an Allen key. I know it sounds crazy but I can think of no other piece of metal which has the same appearance. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/hickdeads/05012010006.jpgJudging by the damage to the head adjacent to one of the valves(See photo)it has slipped through there.http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/hickdeads/05012010011.jpghttp://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad47/hickdeads/05012010012.jpgSo where to go from here im not really sure. The head is pretty buggered but im told can be repaired and ill do the valves and springs at the same time. Quoted about $500. Sound ok? The questions from here are almost endless. How did it get there? Where is the rest of it? Is the piston buggered? It has some minor score marks on it but the bore wall seems ok? Either way its going to be a while before im back on the rd and probably quite a few dollars later. If anyone has any ideas, advice or anything else usefull, feel free to post. But I have to concur, you'll most likely have bore and piston damage. Time to strip and quote unfortunately. I've sent you a pm regarding help in that area
