Arkayne,

If the tuner you are going to see doesn't have previous experience with tuning FG's then I personally would be arriving with proven parts from our site sponsors and asking them to be fitted. That way you know what the car is capable of with these parts. If the car doesn't make the power you want and you have non proven parts then you'll be doubting you purchases.

The power figure you get will depend highly on the Dyno your car is tuned on, my car made 301rwkw with just injectors and tune. That's no cold air intakes or special filters. Throw in a high flow cat and it's going to make even more. My car ran our of injectors at around 280rwkw. FG F6 injectors are bigger and will be a good option for you if you don't want an after market injector.

Benny

Thanks Benny! Have considered a lot of options, but thought I'd give him a chance. We didn't go for any injectors, but the plan currently stands as is and he is working on it at the moment. Will see how it goes tomorrow at lunch time. Will post results.

On another note, he called me today and said there might be a bit of a delay (he was going to have it done by afternoon today). Apparently, because he's doing the custom exhaust for me (removing centre mufflers, putting a straight-through pipe where the exhaust splits just before the centre muffler, and also through the centre muffler), when he got to the back, where I asked for a quad tip outlet, he said the way he was going to do it (cut a whole into the pipe just before the fuel tank and extend to the other side) wouldn't work.

Apparently because he needs the pull the exhaust off to tig weld it, it wouldn't come off from that end since it kept hitting into the fuel tank. So, he's going to run the pipes to the right hand side (where the original exhaust was), and then bend it back to run behind the fuel tank as it would originally.

What do people think about this? I was trying to look around on the site for FG 6T's that had quad tips and showed directly under the car, but couldn't find any. Has anyone spoken to a tuner, etc about getting this done to their car? Because apparently now we're keeping the centre muffler, and removing the rear one as there's no room for it any more.

I'm doubting his work at the moment, but will see how it turns out. Never-the-less, it's only $1800 for the whole lot (tune, air intake, exhaust), so we'll see how it goes, and if he stuffs it up, best thing I can do is drive it down to Adelaide for them to fix his mistakes. I mean, he's a great person, as the family knows him, and was even working until 2am last night on it, so we'll see how he goes.

But I dislike that he tried to re-direct my options given to him from you guys into something completely different. Hope it all works out.

VCM doesn't require me to buy a unit. He's already got that so all he'll do is custom tune and then download it to the car. I don't get to keep the box, thus don't have to pay for it.

Hey mate, My car was tuned with vcm hp/suite and I have no issues with it, Car has made good power and my tuner is great to deal with. But with saying that I will in future get an x cal3 for the sake of having 2 different tunes as I have used car to go on holidays and every fuel stop I went to only had 95 octane fuel so I had to ad octane booster everytime. It would have been more conveniant to be able to put a 95 octane fuel tune in car before I left home to save a few bucks though. with saying that the car is rarely going to be used for long distance travel

Car will be tuned on 98 ron, but did ask the tuner if this was an issue. Since we live in the middle of nowhere (good ol' Alice Springs), he will still tune it properly to run on 98, but has noted that running 95 will not damage the motor. Not sure how this'll work.

Thanks for the input though, something I will have to ask him about!

Tuning will be done this afternoon, I'll get a clear understanding how exactly this works, as I don't exactly know what he means by being able to run 95 ron if we're tuning it for 98 ron... *shrugs*
