it might be beneficial to ask ford for the part that failed.. either the conrod, end cap or its bolts...

Then see if there is a porous cavity (manufacturing defect), you might be able to get a metalurgist to look at it, or if there are signs of over-tightening or somethin... dunno..

on 2nd thoughts it might just be hard work.. :idunno:

Dealer came back with a price of between $8 and $9k to fit a new short motor. But it could be more once they get into it. I know for a fact the sump is stuffed and who knows if the head has been damaged. There's no way I'm going down this road.

Been offered $8k for the car from a wrecker in Melb, not quite enough. He is advising me to fit a NA motor and still run the turbo, reckons drive in (well, tow in) drive out for $2k and would be fine with standard boost. I'm reluctant to take that route.

I have a local mechanic chasing up a used long motor for me now, so see how that goes. There are complete conversions on ebay for $4.5k (engine, turbo, intercooler, ecu, looms, intake) so surely a used motor alone is worth less than that.

I'll definitely get him to check the old motor once its out and see if he can see anything suss.

8-9k from ford is a genuine rip-off.

Have a good shop around, it will be worth it in the end.

If you wanted to you could have my old long engine for $1500 plus freight,

pull one good rod and piston from your broken engine to make a good one.

Would also need a sump or weld a plate to bottom of mine.

Piston may even be ok as it looks intact and moves freely in the bore,

but I wouldn't risk it, better to change it.

Big End Bearing was good, once again while it is out I would also replace them.

It also has Nizpro Valve Springs and never had any valve float with

16psi of boost.

PM if you want to know more.

Other than that I will fix it once I locate a Rod, Piston & Sump

As well hone - rering, New Bearings and sell it for $2500 plus Freight.
