Had 4 new Toyo Proxes 4 fitted about 5 weeks ( 2000 km ago ) The first trip I did was down to the Gold Coast and I couldn't help noticing the humming/droning sound , particularly on the M1 ( concrete ) stretch. The noise ( cuts in at around 40 Km/hr ) is less noticeable on the rougher surfaces, but still there. I don't believe it is diff related as there was not a hint of the noise prior to the new tyres being fitted. I've played around with pressures ( 38 through to 42 ) , with the noise getting slightly worse at the higher range.

I've read that some tyres need a running in period after which noise problems abate, but how long should one wait ? I'm going to take the car back, and get them to recheck wheel balance and the alignment just in case there is an issue there. btw, are the wheel alignment values for the FG range the same as the BF ??

If it isn't tyre noise, any other thoughts?

cheers

Steve

Every tyre I have driven on makes noise on the M1.

Have you used the Toyos in the past ? Could be they are just a noisey tyredontknow.gif

First time with the Proxes ( purchased after some research ) and the humming/ droning sound wasn't something that was mentioned much at all as being a negative. I just want to make sure that the noise is tyre related and not something else.

cheers

18" or 19"?

I had a set of 18" and found them to be quite noisy in all conditions.

I would only imagine if they were on a 19" rim with a lower profile that the noise would be amplified somewhat more.

Mine are HORRENDOUSLY noisy - Traxxion brand (don't ask!) in 245/35/19. Got mechanic to have a look when it was in for service recently (no, not Ford mechanic) and he said it was the tyre. Will soon find out as I'm having Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics fitted this Saturday.
