I was watching Fifth Gear the other night and they did a fuel economy test with a few different cars, one thing I learnt was that apparently the average fuel consumption figures on the specs sheet aren't obtained through regular driving, its all done on a type of dyno, which is the case with most manufacturers. Its a figure you can only aspire to and not expect. I'm sure Expensive Daewoo aren't the first and they won't be the last.

I got 8.7L/100kms AVG from Sydney to Wyong yesterday with cruise control on 110 the whole way. amazing how good these are on the freeway. I was getting even better economy to Canberra where its a lot flatter.

ive owned a VZ commodore, and I think your comment is abit ridiculous, the VZ is the last of that shape and is really a nice car to drive, I work at Hertz so I drive a million different makes and models day in day out... we carry all the big 3 toyota, holden, ford and the amount of FG's we are getting coming back in with problems is abit of a concern... 4 this week with smashed autos in NA xr6's!

Yep, that's usually the response from Late model camira owners. Each to their own, but my view is shared with plenty of others. No offense, but I'm sure all of your rental cars cop a flogging day in day out... its not hard to wreck an auto box. Nearly all of our Late model camira work cars have had new boxes, diffs etc. and the Fords are no different. The toyotas are fine beacuse no one actually wants to drive them apart from the older folk here...

That 4 banger was a Prius. A BMW M3 out-eco'ed a Prius around a track.

Germans love their fast cars but have to comply with strict emission standards. This is why Beemers are both efficient and fun. If only BMWs in Australia didn't have an insane price mark up.

F-wolf, you've made a good point about our taxes. I'm tempted to move to America, I'll definitely miss the XR6 turbo, but I'm sure I can buy myself a 335i for the same money.

What peeves me is the way the bommodore trip meter lies so people think they are getting the economy as advertised. The majority of people do not actually use long term fuel use as a guide. But as said previously, smaller engine with heavy car + crap economy, same with the 2 litre Daewoo Captiva.
