Would I consider myself a good driver???depends what you mean by this...im confident with driving. Changing lanes at the last second is a breeze for me ( I do so safely)...and when I get in the car with other mates I can see that I am a better driver than them. But if you refer to drifiting as good driving than I am not.Great, but changing lanes at the last second doesnt make for a good driver. In many cases it makes for a bad one. I will not go near getting this thing sideways intentionallyIm not going to lie to you (and I hope im wrong) but I see through all of this. Personal experience tells me that leopards dont change their spotsYou've already made up your mind, so find a good condition BF 6speed auto XR6T and for the safety of the rest of us, do some track days / driver training courses Edited 08/12/09 04:17 PM by Mat Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/64195-is-xr6t-the-right-car-for-me/page/2/#findComment-961572 Share on other sites
Grug Member 1,318 Member For: 16y 9m 18d Posted 08/12/09 05:40 PM Share Posted 08/12/09 05:40 PM I upgraded from a 98 VT to a 2007 XR6 Turbo about 4 months after getting my license. (Red XR6T on Red P plates looked so dam cool). I had no problems with it what so ever, they're great cars to drive. About 6 months ago I decided to trade in the XR6T and buy a Typhoon, best choice I made so far. Also a "good driver" doesnt need 300rwkw+, you would want 300rwkw to do "bad driver" sort of things. It may cost you $300+ a month on top of your repayments! Parts, servicing, mods, tyres and lots of fuel will eat your junior wage in seconds. Have you thought about the figures or are you one of those "buy now, pay later" guys? An xr6T brings great joy, but will only bring pain if you can't afford it.I drove a a camry for 6 years while I sorted my finances and grew up. If I had my xrT at 19, I'd be in jail or dead. Don't rationalise your decision. If you buy an xr6T, you WILL hoon and you WILL be sideways. You are 19 for crying out loud! Do you think a few speeding fines in the past will deter the temptation of 300rwkw? GET REAL!Save your money, spend $5k on a corolla, drive that for 5 years, buy an investment property, learn to drive properly - you have compared yourself to your other young mates and have reasoned that you are a better driver.... If you had a brain, you would compare yourself to 30/40 year old who owns a powerful car or has proper driving experience.Sorry to sound harsh, but you need to wake up a bit. inowereulive Member 12 Member For: 17y 4m 3d Posted 09/12/09 12:47 AM Author Share Posted 09/12/09 12:47 AM Was looking for spend 25-30k.Japanese cars??? Well every1 has one...their all the same...little matchbox cars which you cant tow a boat with and cant fit more than 1 person in the car with youInsurance will be 2k a year...or less depending on how many strings I can pull with the oldies.speeding/drifting...well I know my fines in the past have made me change my ways. I have been on 1 point now for what seems like forever and I value my license and understand how hard it would be to get around without a car..drifting?? well I crash my E series some time back and since then I have realised the unpredictability of Wet whether. Now I will not even think of getting on the accelerator around corners...wet or dry.Making mind up...well no...im kind of in the inbetween atm. 25-30k is alot of money to borrow and does have me worried. But I was not thinking of taking this out for another 3-6 months wish I assume my financial position will only improve.Really mentioning my age as 19 I was expecting to get nothing but slander from older drivers about getting a powerful car ( Its the Persone of every P plater).Nonetheless.thanks for all the contructive critisicm Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/64195-is-xr6t-the-right-car-for-me/page/2/#findComment-961638 Share on other sites

Ive always loved cars and the temptation was too great so I brought one. But I will not stress enough that these cars are dangerous if your inexperienced. Not saying that im a terrific driver but I decided that id get one after my P's as I would have more experience under my belt and that my full license would keep the police at bay. It just annoys me a little that 18-19 year olds come on here and ask the opinion of older drivers on whether they should buy a car and then tell them that they are looking for 300RWkw+ as if they can properly handle a car which just a couple of years ago would be in supercar territory. 300rwkw is roughly 360+ engine KW or in the old money almost 500hp!!!! Go into a BMW, AMG dealship and ask to test drive a M5 or AMG SLK and they will just laugh at you. Even if you had the cash from your trust fund to pay it.I know this is just a rant and I dont wanna hurt any feelings but seriously just wait till your off your p's and have a few more years under your belt. I have had a pulsar since I got my P's and now I'm 24, did a turbo conversion and went from 75kw to 150kw then I've stepped into a T with 200kw (stock). The jump between 75 and 150 in a light car was by far the biggest shock, dont be so quick to write off smaller cars. Haven't had an accident but I put that down to having the common sense to understand theres a time and a place for enjoying your investment. I dont see how insurance will be 2k if you are listed as a driver. I'm paying ~1300 as an owner with perfect no claim bonus, not in the city and no driving history.
