Is Xr6T The Right Car For Me?

Just putting a couple of Questions out their for people to answer...this seemed like the appropiate forum to put them in...il explain my story ><

im only 19 (Young). Would I consider myself a good driver???depends what you mean by this...

im confident with driving. Changing lanes at the last second is a breeze for me ( I do so safely)...and when I get in the car with other mates I can see that I am a better driver than them. But if you refer to drifiting as good driving than I am not.

Getting sideways in the Wet/dry is not my thing. My first car was a commodore...I used to powerslide that around every corner possible...hoon up and down every street I could ( like every other Late model camira driver. But doing this I learnt my lesson...got done speeding one too many times and was forced to go to court to appeal my license.

I can Gladly say I have been over a year now clean of losing a point on my license. Yes I still speed here and their...but my "Hoon" driving has gone away. I can safely say I am no longer known aroud my neighborhood as a "stupid f*cking P player".

Now...to my main question.

I have pretty much payed off my loan for my current car and I am looking into getting something newer with alot more go. In saying this I am totally against japansese car and will not go back to Expensive Daewoo after owning a few fords in between.

What I am looking at is an Xr6T...looking for something 300+RWKW. Just like alot of other people. I want the power but at the same time not having to sacrifice comfortability and leg room...Towing the boat would also be an added bonus. Now really my options are really Xr6T or an Xr8...the Xr8 seems a bit more pricy and people say they are harder to get power out of. Honestly I have my Heart Set on the Xr6T :)

Reading alot of things it seems that the Xr6T has alot of traction problems...

now I want to know what people mean by this...Does this mean going along from 0-100 the car will be stepping out sideways...or just some minor wheelspin????...and if its just minor wheelspin...how does this effect the tires.

I had my heart set on a manual...but due to alot of reading it has been percieved that they are quite abit slower...and traction will be MORE of an issue with them? is this true.

Really all this car will be used for will be the occasional squirt off from the lights/along the freeway. Casual driving and towing the boat. I will not go near getting this thing sideways intentionally.

Just wanted every1s opinion on whether they think I have enough driving exp...etc to handle a car like this...ive had my license 2.5 years...2 not including my L's.

Thankyou

First point I guess is the legality, depending on where you live a T might be on the restricted list.

But other than that go for it. Traction at stock power with decent tyres in a straight line in the dry is not really an issue...just a bit of innocent squealing but nothing over the top. You do need to be cautious in the wet, but they are pretty predictable and easy to drive.

Welcome to the site.

How much are you looking at spending? And a standard XRT will be fine for "the occasional squirt off from the lights/along the freeway", you don't really need 300 for that.

im 19 aswell man and ive had my turbo for about 6 months, and in around feb next year ill be modding it to get it around the 300rwkw mark.

they are bloody good cars, although I consider myself a v8 fan rather than a turbo fan, the xr6 turbo is definatly the choice over the xr8. the boss motors are pretty heavy and useless.

an xr6t will have the same traction as an xr8 with the same power, its just a hell of alot easier and cheaper to make that power ;)

also I bought a 4speed auto because of my budget at the time, but if I had my time again I would have saved the extra cash for a 6speed manual. the autos may be abit quicker off the line, but the manual will always feel alot quicker on the street and a hell of alot more fun. the 6 speed auto is an awesome gear box aswell. definatly I would stay away form the 5 speed manual.

after a flash tune the torque figures go through the roof right through the rev range so it makes them a good tow car aswell.

they're best ford on the market for sure, they wipe the floor with commodores dollar for dollar, and jap cars are just plain gay so why not haha

and if you have a read through this forum you'll soon realise that the skys the limit with these cars

and if your worrying about not being able to handle it I wouldnt be.

traction control stops you from doing anything stupid if your not trying to. and once traction control is off ive always found that mine is quite predictable to control

You can get sideways in any car dosent matter what car you drive, your only as good as your right foot.

An xr6t is a great car for towing a boat and taking down the strip, drive it standard and get use to it, go slow on the modifications. Go a tune after a couple months and increase a little as you get used to it.

Theres alot of potential in the xr6t.go slow and dont rush.

Like any car, have a test drive in it and see what it's like, then you'll get used to the power and be able to handle it a bit more, then you'll get sick of it and start wanting more power :)

I have a 300rwkw+ car and its a baby to drive if you dont put you foot down, 80% of the time the misses drives it (make her leave traction control on and slaps to me if I turn it off when she's in the car) and she has no worries with it.

They drive nice as long as you dont come hard on boost, maybe the little chirp from 1st to 2nd when giving 1/1000th throttle (have a 4 speed auto.)

Big advice is save for a 6 speed Auto or manual it will save you in the long run and be much nicer.

And just remember you can hoon in any car, standard commy/falcons now have 200kw. that's plenty to get in trouble with if you dont have respect/experience.

Trouble like this

IMG_1864med.jpg

- crashed it a month after owning it, 24yo at the time about to turn 25.

Cost to my car, about 8k. Other car, 7k. This is to be avoided.

Also do not change lanes at the last second... unless you've just done a blind spot check MAYBE. Leave more room :)

They are great cars. Much better than an XF or an EA series 2 :)

Good luck! :beerchug:
