I'm 100% against running red lights and speeding through intersections is very dangerous sometimes but these thing should have a bit of slack to allow for maybe up to 5kmh over the limit to remove some of the paranoia people have with speed cameras which would allow them to concentrate more on the road.

You will wash off a lot more then 5kmh if you hit the brakes half a second earlier.

Is there no tolerance on these cameras?

you would think so but general speed cameras will get you from 0-10 km/h over the limit. My friend went through a speed camera ( 59-60 in a 60 zone ) then touched the accelerator when he thought he was past the camera and was flashed. Mind you this was at 2am when there was no one else on the roads.

There is one of these cameras soon to be three on the way to work and I already have been caught in a situation where it has been so tempting to jump on the accelerator to make sure I go through. Human reflexes are not that good when put in situations like these. we cant make complex judgments and react in a safe manners if there is such as risk of either losing your licence or having a car go up the rear end of you. either they make a leeway of 0-5km/h or I can see a lot more people getting caught by them.

It'll be interesting to see if they get challenged in the courts, all it takes is someone pissed off enough and willing to do it out of principle. The lack of warning like a normal speed camera is my concern, if you're concentrating on actually driving and whats going on around you it's easy to pick up a few km/h especially on a hill and in a 60 zone that would be enough to get you done.

I have no idea if there is any tolerance or not. Not willing to test it, can't afford it in the demerits department :).

If there is tolerance it should be made public.

Tolerance varies from state to state, except in Victoria, where I hear they have none. There use to be a formula for NSW speed cameras, but your guesses are as good as mine with the new ones. Remember they have to be paid off somehow.

Right...

So your opinion overrides the findings of Government research now??

LOL

In the time it took you to write that BRILLIANT comment you could've read the conclusions of the National Road Safety Strategy and seen in plain english that it states 50% of the deaths on our roads are directly attributable to the conditions of the roads.

No just in conflict with factual data. Gee you need a hobby!

Hmm and just looking through TORUM and Vic has 1kmp/h tollerance ha ha sucked in. Most other states have a 3kmp/h. but I have not updated this thing in a few years.

Hi Guys,

I saw the Red Light camera at Showground Rd & Green Rd Castle Hill taking happy snaps the other day. It seems that some of the Red Light cameras are now also speed cameras.

The Roads and Traffic Authority, which be responsible for the new technology, will activate combined red light and speed cameras at four permanent sites, while another five dual-use cameras will be rotated through 25 other locations across NSW.

Red light cameras

I guess we all drive like Miss Daisy's chauffeur so there's gassing it up a tad to make sure we slip through on the amber.

I wonder if they will erect the SPEED CAMERA AHEAD signs for these?

What's the big issue??

I cite facts and you go all weird and emotional???

I don't see what's so hard to accept here. It's not about "driving fast" that's the whole point!
