I hope so too, although I did get sent one of those emails talking about the ned safety cameras and there locations and that wasnt on there. But then again its just a stupid chain email.

I guess it usually takes them 3-4weeks to send you out a fine. So another week or so without one and I reckon Im clear.

Im fairly sure youre fine. The thing flashed that brightly youd be hard pressed to not notice it even in daylight. I did the same as you and im 99% sure im ok now.

I wonder which statistics support that when you speed up to avoid a red light camera you ram the car in front?

if the motivation was to catch unsafe/late intersection crossers, isnt the red light camera function sufficient ?

Simple response ...............................Revenue raising and cars are easy targets as opposed to fighting real crime yes-sir.gif

Absolutely!

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure this stuff out.

First heard about this topic over a year ago on Radio National when they interviewed Mike Harris, the director of the Australian Automotive Association about it. Was pretty damn interesting to hear him talk about this little known fact, namely that the roads themselves are responsible for over 50% of the road toll. And yes Einstein I dug further into this issue by checking some stuff out online, something we all do.

Pity we can't all be AMAZING like you and only need to cite our beliefs on any given issue.

Nice bloke Mr Harris.

But he is not a government official. As in elected by us.

He also said "prevention" is the best cure. And is a big advocate for having the national speed limit reduced. And especially suburban speed limits.

I would love great roads, I really would. I would love to see separate roads for heavy vehicles and times in the day when they ONLY combine with the everyday traffic. IE 8pm to 5 am

I think opposing lanes should be divided by at least 40m and another 20m to each side before any construction or fauna. But remember @100kmp/h you are moving @28m per second. So even on one of these perfect roads a nanno nap will be the end of you. A quick look into the center console or floor for your phone you just dropped and life as you know it is gone. Ask any cop or ambo how many phones they find on the floor of the car after an accident, ON. And how cheap is blue tooth these days.

They are getting there with the roads. And if you live in any other state bar QLD you already have "Fairly" acceptable roads. Yes I am saying that tongue in cheek. but man Vic roads and especially the way they repair a road is so above the std we have to tolerate up here in QLD.

QLD death to population rate is one of the worst in the country. But of course they don't Take away the tourists from that figure. That would wreck their statistics.

We also have the problem of room. Ridiculous I know with this huge land of ours with as many people as a big foreign city. In places like I have mentioned before, land will have to be reaquasitioned (bought back from the general public) before they can do anything more than they have to the roads. It would be like a constant rerun of the movie "The Castle".

Is it fair for these farmers to have to give up land their families have owned and toiled through drought, flood and fire for generations? The road side shop keepers? Even if we promise them a place back on the new great road. What do they do for the 6 to 12 years it takes to complete a job like this. And that's half the trouble. That is the time frame it takes to have these things go from a good idea to reality.

#1 the good old Pacific hwy has been under construction since I was a kid. And from Melbourne up too Cooroy 4573 it is pretty good. yes Kempsy/ McLean area and a few other places need ot be fixed. but there is more good bits than say shockers. Where that trend reverses dramatically after Cooroy. I think its classed as high to very high danger from then on.

Our government spent around 5% of the GDP on our roads last year. With a deficit of 3.7% of GDP or 57 billion dollars.Where is the money going to come from? And if they spend any more it will be on our rego for sure. Hope these figures give you an idea in what I meant by be prepared for your rego to be quadruple what it is now and that still will be a piss in a pool to what we need to spend just to get rid of the bad roads. Not improve the half decent ones we have.

As a company owner my car is company and I have every little change from $800 a year. Ouch. We wont have to worry about young drivers as they wont be able to afford to run a car.

Think of the tax they take from you every year. Especially if you drink beer or smoke. Mr Harri's conglomerate AAA turns over 100 million a year. How much do they give back to help fix these problems.....0

Anthony Albanese Is the man your after. it all rests on his head and how hard he goes into bat for us. He is an elected gov official and has to be open to your opinion. So give it to him. Tell all your friends.

I had to register the R Spec last week. The crafty buggers in WA WA land have stopped handing out rego stickers so that if you get pulled over the "Officer" is obliged to check your car out, although they probably do anyway. The catch is that presently in Perth they are installing the same isidious little cameras in any available spot to continually photograph every car that passes to check on rego compliance, and and of course speed (a la London). Tab is right this won't be stopped, just get out the Vaseline and bend over.

I think the agenda is really 50% road safety and 50% revenue raising. Two things are for sure IT WILL GET A LOT WORSE BEOFRE IT GETS BETTER and AIN'T GOING AWAY ANY TIME SOON.

I was reading an article last week re the cameras they installed in Phoenix in the USA. They are all about to be ripped down because the public had the balls to treat the fines with the contempt most of them deserve and the unpaid bill topped 90 million dollars before the Govt realised they didn't have enough jail cells to house all the defaulters, the cameras also made zippo difference to the road toll while they were up. Its a shame the Aus public has been brainwashed into believing the "Speed Kills" nonsense. I wonder what the leftist clowns would do if Australians woke up and followed the lead of the good folks in Arizona.

Drive fast, drive like a hoon, and speed in the suburbs you get what you deserve IMHO.

Steal a days pay off a family man for doing 6 kph over the limit on the way to work and that is revenue raising.

only problem with not paying fines in oz is they will just cancel your rego and drivers licence and its not just traffic fines its any goverment fine I had a mate have his canceled from a an unpaid non voting fine

im sure they would have asked for the money a heap of times but still I think its unfair to take something that has nothing to do with the original penalty notice

I remember reading something in the paper a few months ago about kids having unpaid train fines from when they were in school all unpaid and having to pay thousands in fines befor getting their L plates to learn to drive its a joke if you ask me

A lot of young ppl now who have outstanding fines, especially train fines for some reason, cannot apply for there licence. The governements want there money.

Think it also has a nuetral affect on the road toll as well.

Think it also has a nuetral affect on the road toll as well.

you may be right with the above statement although I still think its unfair to stop somebody from driving because of an unpaid train fine

when in most cases ppl need to be able to drive to work in order to earn money to pay fines ?

(im sure plenty will hate me for this one but here it goes )

if anything maybe they should take any unpaid fines from peoples tax return say you have 12 months to pay up and if you dont next time you file a tax return any money you would have got back if any pays off unpaid fines first

now im aware lots of young ppl have no jobs and not being able to drive may or may not have anything to do with not being able to drive in all cases but im sure its the result of a few

one thing is for sure though and that's ppl with no job and unpaid fines are either going to drive without a licence or rego and get busted by them new cameras and then owe even more money and have even less chance of getting a job

or just sit around on the dole doing nothing in turn costing the tax payer even more than it did by not recovering the money from unpaid fines in the first place

wasnt the goverment thinking of letting young ppl work the fines off by doing community work only a few months ago that's the best idea ive heard it that still going ahead ?

cheers trev

Radio National is the "6pm news"???

LOL

That's gold..

The irony is that you're the one who's been pushing the sort of mindless opinions found on the 6 oclock news.

I pointed to findings which have something your opinions completely lack: substance, and you got all weird and personal.

Keep frothing at the mouth every time someone says something you dont like Einstein, its a good look, Im sure the chicks really go for it too.
