There are alot of opinions out there and of course a current affair has jumped all over it, but as car enthusiast's we have all im sure at one time or another talked about our experiences with the boys and girls in blue.It was reported that over the last 2 years there were 100's of motorists that had fines reduced to lesser amounts and that 4 of which should have lost their license because of the speed they were driving, in particular one person clocked doing 123km in a 60km zone which for me personally does leave a sour taste in my mouth, but the question being floated around is - if you are pulled over and the fine is reduced or you're even let off with a warning, does it make you more likely to learn from it and be a more safer driver and slow down more, and realise how lucky you are? Because im pretty sure there won't be too many officers out there who will now show the leaniency they gave before in fear of receiving the same treatment. Please do not make this a police bashing thread. I will go outon a limb and suggest using his descression is not th real reason. I have some thought but are purely speculation so I will keep them to my self.Scotty

Happens to the best of us. I wont admit to being a saint! But there would be a lot of people on hear that have smashed the speed limit on the odd occasion. Ive lost a licence before (never from speeding) but it comes down to a moment of weakness and pot luck weather your going to get pinched. So I dont think letting people off will do anything for a repeat offence. Yet even if you have been snapped and lost the licence for speeding before there is a dam good chance of speeding again anyway just the matter of getting snapped for it! The guy has been a cop for 30+ years, I'm sure he has the ability to discern between idiotic speeding and a lack of concentration. All that said though, I'd like to see the excuse for doing 120+ in a 60 zone! There has to be more to this story! I think they all have to make discretionary decisions every day. Otherwise they would be snowed under in paperwork IMO. I doubt this was the first form of disciplinary action he got...if so they didn’t really have any other option but dismissal.
