It really does come down to the buck I think.

We will watch anything the spin doctors put on.

And two the manafactures don't want to spend the money. but if things get tight they will have to do something. IF V8 supercars go ???? They need the sell.

I don't even watch F1 anymore it's so boring. Give me the utes and comodore sereis anyday.

For my two cents and I think it's been proved through the years the imports might flog us in a battle but our cars for the dollar ha ha still win the war of the mighty hill called Bathurst

The dash might rattle and the windscreen leak, ... the diff will whine all day but it will get you there and back

Name a production car series anywhere in the world that's the number one form of Motorsport in that particular country? There isnt one.

As for V8's being broke??? Think again, its not broke at all. Yes they are making progress to make the series less expensive but they certainly are not short of a dollar. How could they afford to put on street races like this weekends Homebush if they were going down the drain? They just sold the television rights to the V8's to SPEED TV for a big some of money and will be heading to Singapore in 2012.

The less manufacturers are involved in Motorsport the better. Just look at F1.

In my opinion, its the old tall poppy syndrome that encourages people to blast the V8's.

the TV report I saw said that taxpayers ended up paying for the v8 supercars event in canberra, as the turnout & merchandising sales were hugely disappointing and not anywhere near the figures that v8 supercars suggested would happen.

dude that is why the V8s havent raced in canberra for years now - it WAS not profitable so they STOPPED racing there - AFAIK the rest of the series is booming - yes numbers were down this year but there was no alarm bells ringing anywhere

I agree 100% - production car racing is the best and benifits flow through to us. Hell, its the only reason we got the gtho's.

but lets not just talk about it - lets support whats there already. ----- Bathurst 12 hr production car race for starters.

I havnt gone to bathurst v8's for years because it might as well be formula ford (not road cars) but this year I am going to make the trek to the 12 hour race (armor all racing has just listed a fg f6 in the line up).

Now who would be interested in a organised cruise up for the weekend (need to find out if there is the same 1 case per day maximmum as v8 bathurs :fish:

Welcome to the Official Bathurst 12 Hour Website

what point of view? I just mentioned a Tv show I saw a couple of weeks ago, I didn't know it was talking about events 10 years ago (I'm not sure if it was or not), but it was implying that the v8 supercars wasn't as profitable as it has been in the past and may rap up soon.

in any case, I agree with the OP and would rather see a production series than a two horse race trying to market v8s.

Overall, the Australian public is not interested in production racing.. Granted there will be fans etc but no way in the world to make it a viable proposition for any large sponsor or TV network.. Money counts and the only money for local car racing in Oz is the supercars...

P.S. not saying that is a good thing :)

I can't agree with that. If the same sort of money and promotion was put into production cars, or modified production cars, they would be popular. You can't compare the lacklustre production car series of today, with the V8 circus. Don't forget where the V8's originated, they were production cars, then modified production cars, then 2 makes simply because Expensive Daewoo didn't have anything to compete with the Sierras and Skylines. It's now denegrated into a cookie cutter series so that the two sole competitors don't have to spend too much money developing cars that can be raced, and to stop it being too one sided.

The pre V8 racing was extreemly popular, despite a lack of big business support and organisation that exists now. It could also be said that the enormity of the V8 series is out of necesity due to having to attract viewers from a smaller segment of the population.

If you want an example of a production based series being sucessful, that's mostly what they do in europe. Sure the cars are heavily modified, but at leased they are built from a production car, running the same engine blocks as what the cars come with.

I can't see how expanding the series' appeal by including more manufacturers with cars the public can actually relate to , will do anything more than increase their total audience. They might loose some knuckle draggers, but who cares.

I would most definately support such a class. I really feel that the V8 Supercars have strayed too far from their predacessors. I cannot see how they call highly modified and enineered supercars Holdens and Fords... All that is retained is the outer shape... What an abomination.... bring back the C class racing with the 500 production units to qualify for entry and we will once again have our iconic muscle cars... While I am at it. I hope that Karma catches up with 888 racing... Just my 2c
