I gave up and installed an aftermarket source.

I couldnt stand my 10k worth of gear not going loud.

Also the standard ICC has terrible sound quality compared to a good aftermarket source.

Sitting in traffic today and all I could hear was hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. I'm over it. Looking to install an aftermarket head unit as per suggestions. Nothing else works in the tech pack works particularly well anyway. Easy to get a head unit with iPod integration and probably bluetooth that will work with an iPhone too. All I am losing is the volume buttons on the wheel, and frankly I'd rather use a knob. I guess if I look around I can find someone who makes the 1 din mount insert like phantom has in his photo. If anyone wants the wiring diagram I have of the ICC, probably better to send me message with your email address. Needs to be high res if you want to be able to read it. I'm not supposed to put it up anywhere really. I would like a subwoofer too, but my car is a work ute and it has to be small (need the space) and robust.

Hmmm. I'm not a big poster to forums, but is the topic wandering?

Cheers all

I considered aftermarket, but where PhantomXR6 has his head unit I have the stupid FPV Start button, so even more hassle would be involved. It seems crazy that the hiss is much worse with aftermarket gear - I really never noticed it before, but with aftermarket gear it's TERRIBLE.

For future troubleshooting purposes, does anyone know if it's OK to start the car without the seats in? I'm worried some code might result due to the missing airbags. What's the go?

It seems odd that the volume of hiss does not change with the volume of the headunit - surely that points to what the fault must be - to an Electronics guru anyway?

I like the ipod, mobile phone etc integration of the ICC, and would rather keep it if at all possible, but the hiss really is annoying!

Good luck actually finding something mate. You will be hard pressed to do that.

It is something you have to make yourself. And there is not a lot of room in there.

I havent even made a facia for mine yet, it is mounted just below the ICC.

I havent had the time to do any more on it. I am going to finish it over the Christmas break.

Here is a photo as it is now.

Yeah you can start the car without the seats in. It will have an airbag fault but once you put them back in it will go away.

I drove my ute around for 2 days without a passenger seat.

Hi guys,

I just bought an FG XR6 Turbo ute with lux pack (inc prem sound)and hopefully take delivery next week, I have been keeping an eye on these threads as even the salesman said the premium sound is terrible.

Has anyone tried an Audisone Bitone?

Audison - Music Expression

I have seen these work in a few cars and they are a bloody good bit of gear!

If in Melbourne, No Limit car audio sell them and the people that supply them are; RM Audio

If you need any info I suggest you call them and have a chat about it as I think it is a neater stock looking solution and everything will run off the factory head unit.

I was thinking about getting some aftermarket speakers to run off the stock head unit and wiring in an amp for a sub, do you think this will be ok? Or is the stock head unit really that bad?

Thanks

Dave

silva33/dave - do you work for one of thee companies by any chance?

saba - mate, again that points to a likely cause of earthing/cross talk interference...

get the installer to disconnect/remove the fuse for the AC (if he can, not sure on the path/wiring for the FG;s)... give the stereo a burl and see what it does!

No I dont work for the companies I am just trying to help out, I had my stereo installed on another car by No Limit and they did a great job, while I was there they were tuning a bitone on another customers car.

It sounds like a problem on the FG and I think the Bitone would be a solution, It is certainly a solution I am considering should I choose to run splits off an amp and not just the head unit which is why I was wanting to know if the stock head unit was able to run aftermarket speakers and if so, how much power does it supply?

I have seen the bitone work in other cars and considering no one here has found a solution in the FG which works properly it is worth a shot.

I can see how my post looked like a bit of an ad though :)

Cheers

Dave
