Guest 56Mainline Guests Posted 24/09/03 12:20 AM Share Posted 24/09/03 12:20 AM If you have installed a boost / vacuum gauge, what has been the maximum and average readings for negative boost / vacuum? When slowing on a trailing throttle about 22hg. max boost seems to be between 5 and 6. With a manual car you can keep the vacuum up around 5"Hg or above if you drive for economy. However with an auto you will never have a vacuum reading except on trailing throttle because the torque convertor slips to 2000 rpm whenevr any throttle is applied which instantly gives boost ... so autos simply cannot give good economy but on the other side of the coin they are usually quicker to respond than a manual when the loud pedal is pushed.
