mate I'm in the motor industry...and they make me look normal.....

I used to be a sales manger for a large sydney spare parts store..the tools I dealt with ...well what can I say...

This one case come to mind...this customer who was a regular shopper came in one day... had spent quite a few dollors with us...Bought a new s/h car and the thermo fans didn't work...I told him bring them in and I will have a look....

He brought them in, I tried to help him us much as I could....dug out a receipt from 11 months ago and sent them to melbourne to see if I could claim warranty on them...

Guess what they were replaced...16inch thermo fans... price I think was over a few hundred..

Rang him ...he came in , showed it to him he left a happy man...

So I just gave this bloke these fans for free...

3 months later he rings me telling me the blade on the fan was broken..I told him we checked it and it was okay when he picked it up...he even had a look....and I told him the best I could do was give him one at cost for maybe $15..could of given it to him, but I though I did more than enough for him ....He cracked it with me...death threats...telling me he was going to get me bashed...you name it he said it...even had fair trading ring me..

Came in one day with a base ball bat...WTF..The boss called the cops...otherwise he would of left with that well and truly up his cake hole.....Go figure...what else did he want me to do for him

I was service manager at a kawasaki dealership.

This blokes son bought a KX250 new off us. He never bought an air filter, nor oil filter or oil off us in the ten months he had it. Also never brought it in for the valves to be done every twenty hours. Basically a bad boy.

Well it dropped a ring one day riding with his mates. So he stopped let it cool and it started again so off he went...... till it completely lunched itself. Mx bikes dont come with much warrenty as it is, but this guy took the extended warrenty out on it.

Of course when I made the phone calls to the warrenty place, they asked for the service reciepts, as they always do. No they dont have to be done at kawasaki but they do have to be serviced by an autherized "workshop" doesnt matter if your best mate is a better spanner than Jeremy Burges.

So anywho it got knocked on the head.

Now enter his dad in full rebel colours, and he wants my head.

Our salesmanager was the sgt at arms for the Black Ulans and the head mechanic rides for the Angels. And it would seem none of them like each other. And here I am sweating bullets with all these HE men testosteroining around me. It was ugly.

That was my last day as service manager. I cut my cast off and went back to riding. Stuff being a service manager... I have had some bad jobs but that one is for the dogs

I am a queenslander but I didnt want to upset anyone, the bloke that was up me was a Tongan, so a mate informed me. This same mate had previously been in a similar situation with him, so he grabbed a star picket and layed him out and ran haha

We got more mexicans up here than queenslanders I swear. Nah the tourists are just whingers but dont cause too much trouble but I swear those other type of people drink or snort some funny water.

I had my revenge today I went & did a day long test on the unit in question & its perfect. I charged him for some parts that were missing & sent a nice little letter stating it was due to his dodgey wiring that caused the issue & the units perfect also added if he steps a foot in the shop the authorites will be called & because he really pissed me off made a few phone calls to a few businesses from where he's from & they said they'll throw the scum bag out of there shop if he comes in. The last laugh is mine!!! lol.

I've been dealing with the public and in retail for the better part of 10 years now, and there has certainly been a shift towards people being more demanding and "expecting" at times more than they deserve or are entitled to. I can deal with pretty much anything and in the company I work for we push customer service heavily and talk about the lifetime value of a customer etc, but when a person starts yelling and swearing or looking like they want to get physical then that's where the line is drawn. No sale, or return value of a customer is worth my safety and that of my team. Ive had to call the police on numerous times for people who refuse to leave when asked or begin to get agressive.

At the end of the day we are only human and although it is no excuse to act the way they do, at times we forget that the customer themselves just may have had the worst day of their life for whatever reason, and you happened to be the straw that broke the camels back and sent them over the edge. Again not an excuse but food for thought that a little bit of empathy towards them can go along way. I let the person get out what they want to say, and if they start shouting or swearing or both, I simply tell them that I am here to try and help but if you continue talking to me in that way then they will be asked to leave. Happy to listen but talk to me with respect and like an adult. Most of the time when I am faced with that scenario and I have said that to them, they calm down immediately and continue their conversation.

In todays market people are wanting the product to be better quality, have more benefits, last longer and be cheaper. Unfortunately it doesnt work like that, the old saying you get what you pay for, still applies. All you can do is treat each situation on it's own meritt and do the best you can to achieve that win win outcome.
