Even if the installer charge $70 an hour, that's 7 hours worth of installation. doesn't worry me paying the money, just don't like getiing ripped off and then start reading on this forum that guys have had them installed for $200.

Chris,

that's over the top when you consider he is selling you the unit at full retail as well as charging you a highly inflated installation charge.

Time to find another installer

Anymore news on this system? Am very keen to have it installed. I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone created this interface.

Hi chrislak,

All I can say is "Use your price crunching skills".

I would recommend an install price of no more than $250.00.

The install could take up to 4 hours, depending on the installer and mounting location of the DVD player.

See Yah!

Yup, I'm looking at getting it also, maybe the ADMIN could pursuade the dealers to ummm... think about mate's rates for FordXR6Turbo.com members. They're gonna make a huge profit anyway.

UPDATED: more info :)

OK folks....

Here's what I've worked out!

Based on posts from a number of different forums including:

FordMods

ForumForums

FordXR6Turbo

So credit for pieces of info really belong to the many contributers to each of these sites.

BUT: Anyway here in the info:

The Premium audio system can accept 4 Auxillary Audio inputs, These are either overlaid/mixed with 'playing' audio or standalone.

These are:

* Mobile Phone (Stand alone and selected via pulling one line to ground on conenctor)

* Auxillary Audio Input (Stand alone and selected via 'AM' button when interface cable is installed and input source plugged in - to be confirmed)

* SATNAV Audio (Overlaid or interupted? To Be confirmed)

* Reverse Sense warning (Same as SatNav)

There may be another not 100% though

There is a 'Spare' VIDEO input into the ICC available if you don not have the SATNAV system fitted.

I have got the pinouts for this and it accepts the signals from a PC style device (RGBVHVS type). It is selected by pulling another pin in the same connector to ground. The IR port can also be accesed here.

So for example to put a TV input into your ICC you would need a TV tuner of some kind, a signal convertor to make sure your tuner device outputs the correct signal for the ICC and a 'switch' to pull the appropriate connector to ground. To do a laptop would probably cost about $5 in parts.

It is possible that the tricky overlay for 5s functions are already built into the display circutry and hence all you have to do is plug in an input. The overlay function I'm fairly sure is a off-shoot of the auto-display-off feature and all what is really happening is the display is set to a 'null' input until a button press on the ICC is detected, this holds the display active again taking over the display from the 'null' input for 5s. It would be easier for Ford to include that in all Premium Colour TFT setups and allow dealers to quickly retrofit SATNAV by just plugging in cables and mounted the 'Box' and Antenna (box mounts in boot on upper RHS brackets are already there). That would make life a lot easier and mean that the WDS wouldn't nbeed to be dragged out to reconfigure the ICC for such an install.

All this starts making the possibility of ANY video source for any purpose very attractive. However there are LEGAL issues about non vehicle control displays in view of the drive when car is in motion.

The ICC colour TFT appears to be 800x600 res according to most sources. Although I personally would suspect it's 640x480 or a 'custom' resolution. May have to actually work out the dot pitch and then measure ;)

So there you have it - no mega buck stuff required - but then again the Blaupunkt gear will do it all with a lot of class.

I'd love more input and or to compare notes with others who have gone down this route ;)

Aaron.

Damn good post there aaronmihe! Thanks. I tried researching this way back in Nov last year when the cars just came out but to no avail. Anyway. If some enterprising fella can work out an easy way to allow video and audio in, and actually hook it all up for under $80 bucks you can count me in!

I would like Satnav, but its too damn expensive! I would love a satnav unit, that could provide all the info of the "road angel" as well, ie. Speed cameras!! A unit with this feature, and satnav, as well as providing spare video inputs (to run XBOX for DVD movies etc) would be worth $2500 in my opinion.

Well I am working on doing it for under $100... I think it's possible - I need mroe pinouts of the audio side of the house and more info on exactly how the functions integrate ont eh Ford Factory installs before I can actually say "here's this fancy wiring loom diagram" guys. The loom itself is cheap it's getting the signal into the thing and switching it that takes effort....

However using IR is not difficult - a simple IR Xmitter, a FlipFlop triggered by the built in IR receiver on the relevant pin and 'voila' we're in business there. And the signal convertor - they do exist as commercial untis for under teh $100 mark at some place so I figure the guts will be aroudn even cheaper ;)
