Hey all, I just thought I'd check up and see how this project is going. After reading this long topic I am REALLY interested in installing an XBOX into my XR6T!

Any more progress? Did anybody end up making any "ready to go" kits?

Been there done it ;)

I've got to sort out soem stuff - (having just gotten back from Two weeks away, and moving house barely before that) then will post up more info.

The fact is xbox into BA-Premium is easy very easy.

If I have the cashola I'd finish building my project but after proving to myslef that it all works I've ground to a halt designing a new 12v power supply (invertors are messy) becuase I don't have the cash to follow through.

However I do have a nice cable.... Xbox plug on one end, BA plug on the other.

Is the cable made up from the EL rear demister plug ?

Or

Do you need to buy the Blau 4 way video input ?

I have the Ford SatNav, but I want a way to have my MP3 collection in the car without having a IPod or similar. I was thinking a XBox would be a cheap way to do this + get many more features, like games and dvd

Hey, there could be quite a market if someone wanted to make these cables and 12V power supplies for BA Falcons (hint, hint).

One of the things I'm a bit worried about with the xbox is the mechanical components inside. How does the hard drive stand up to road conditions? It sounds like a dead easy solution to get gigs of mp3's, dvds, games, divx movies, music videos, etc into a car so there HAS to be some kind of a catch :)

The good news is yesterday I sat down for a little bit and finished designing the front end (STBY and POWER ON) functiosn for the 12v xbox supply.

I now have to only do the circutry for the POWER GOOD line and then it's all 100% in business.

Once I get that transposed into a different circuit program to do the board layouts it's a matter of letting it autoroute and 'voila' :)

Aaron, have you decided which road you are going? I mean are you going to sort of "manufacture" these set ups for xbox and sell (which by no means anyone should begrudge you) or are you going to post it all up for everyone to copy free. I would be happy to pay for a set up and Im sure others would. I have one other question as has been asked before, has xbox been road tested, will it live in a 60degree celcius locked car in the middle of summer and will it handle road bumps ok? Dont think anyone is trying to rush you were all just very interested in what you're doing. I would be happy to forward you a small "research donation" if I knew how, what do others think? Running an xbox in a car playing dvds and games into the front and a rear screen would be the ultimate shut up tool!!

Cheers Rob

All my stuff will be (as it is now across a few posts and different forums) collated up and be clearly documented. People will be able to download all the info and use it as they see fit. If I get a solution that I think is dead sexy and I'm happy enough sticking my companies name on it (go ausmicro.com) then there will be production units available. As it stands I will probably sell PCB boards for people that don't have the ability to make their own.

As for xbox durability I have conducted no testing personally however here's what I've learnt ;)

Mount the Harddisk on the side... It stops head crashes on the disc surface due to potholes. Using Hi-speed notebook drives mounted the same way also helps

The xbox needs very good cooling... the processor and graphics chips may need larger coolers and the unit may still shut itself down to heat whent he cabin temp rises to about 40degrees. They shut down when core temp hits about 75 degrees.

If you use an inverter to power it it will probably not "survive crank". ie you're driving on witht he xbox playing away and the engine stalls. The xbox keeps running but when you go to restart the motor the boattery voltage drops and the invertor powers down...thus killing the xbox... if the thing fails to start first go it could 'blip' up and down many tiems which is very very bad.

My power supply will run on as little as 7 volts so will survive crank.

So yeah these things have been thought of...

Theres a stack of other factors too like deciding the best way to enable the display on the ICC, how to handle the remote control stick etc
