Oh boy....when this thread started the first thing that came to my mind was modded Xbox in the boot....it can do virtually everything. games, movies and Mp3. I have an idea that may be a long shot...but could work....maybe... The four contoller ports on the front of the xbox can be made to run USB. A modded xbox can dump a complete program to the HD...in that case....would it be possible to get the software available to people who use GPS on their laptops...install that and the maps to the xbox HD, then run an external GPS antenna such as (THIS) and have satnav running from the xbox? The only thing would be how to enter the destinations etc....

I am currently opperating a modded xbox with 200gig and it has a program to switch between NTSC and PAL output.... Having said all this I would be happy to pay for a ready made interface kit for the car...hmmmmm....the potential...

Yes Aaron I have been researching Xbox's for a while now, its quite hard to know what to do when I dont even have one, but there is plenty of stuff to read up on.

Ill get the system first and play around.

Are standard Xbox able to convert between Pal and NTSC by themselves, I was looking up those external converters and they are CRAZY prices.

How much does SCART cables go for?I dont know too much about SCART but it sounds like the way to go. Cant wait for the cable!

Thanks Aaron

Geez. I have an xbox but I never realised just how many mods and stuff were available. Check this XBOX Media Player out....very impressive....you can watch the video on it also.

Saleen1, You need to pop past and visit Kitty and I next time you're in the area... *grins* Once you have a modded X-box the world is your oyster.. See it in action.

Mitchy_G...

An X-box is a heavily cusomtised PC, as such it uses a pretty much stock standard ATX type power supply. You can buy/build ATX power supplies that run from 12v DC... The Car-PC/MP3-CAR guys have long gotten over the silly invertors and are just using the 12V supplies.

A X-box (assuming its modded to run un-signed code) can be 'flipped' between NTSC and PAL in software.

OK - After doubly confirming things:

Blaupunkt will NOT sell the interface cable stand alone. Why? Well after discovering the only way for me to get the unit is to buy it bundled with another pice of Blaupunkt hardware for a total cost of $750rrp. That doesn't include Navigation or DVD.

So talking about the Blaupunkt interface as a 'ceahp' solution is a bit like saying the best way to get a XR8 bonnet is though buying a whole XR8.

The home brew solution to do more stuff BETTER than the Blau lead would cost about $400-$500, it would also give you PAL video capability thatt he Blau unit does not. That's 4 Inputs, audio and video, switched via a IR remote. Completely clean install.

However that's to do what they do... In reality if you don't want to go to that extreme a modular solution can be found that costs much much less.
