Hi Guys,

Just for your information.

The Blaupunkt BA interface lead is not just a straight connector to connector loom valued at $20.00 as sugested. It actually has a small microprossesor that controls the switching of the navigation and video signals. I did this to give the system an OE feel avoiding ugly switches.

There was also some development time spend designing the PCB and writing the S/W. These cost are not recovered in the cost of the interface!

Blaupunkt does not want to make money on the interface itself, but the products that connect to it. If this is wrong, then what can I say?

We use the interfaces as a selling aid for our products, not for profit.

aaronmihe,

You are on the right track.

The remote signal is already conditioned and will wire up directly to the input of any dvd player.

Thanks guys

*nods* Understood turbocorty ;)

The Blau does pretty much what teh 'standard conversion' for a Honda Navi system does. (They use a Pioneer switch and signal convertor unit). Your's would be the 'same' principle but inhouse design...

My intention is to give myself a 'cheaper' and easier solution as I don't want to switch masses of signal - but IR control is not difficult to do either for a soft switch to enable/disable the display and I will have that. Just a really basic two button remote. Butoon one is display enable/disable. Button two would probably to rotate through input selections.

As for timeframe.. Like most people I'm tinkering here - I've had the car 3 weeks and still haven't actually managed to find time to pickup and install my pollen filter, install my SE Bluettoth kit, install the footwell lights or do the Bled LED install into the window switches.

Hopefulyl in the next couple of weeks I'll get some of that list done and start compiling the info I do have into a starter guide for people. Main goal for now will be to 'pickup' and extend the wiring from under the dash to somewhere where it can be accessed for easy tinkering ;)

OK Most recent update.

I have a prototype audio lead ready to go into the car that costs under $5 to make.

I have located and established the pinouts and connector locatiosn for the TFT input. And the method of enabling it.

What I'm now trying to do is source the connectors to do the job rather than rely upon inserting 13 pins into the factory connectors especially becuase one of them would need the ICC to come out to do easy. If any knows where I could source Ford compatible auto connectors please let me know!

So far aticipated cast to get you stereo audio input and VGA input is $10-$15 with 'manual' selection.... Then you'll need a signal convertor and IR remote system to select and enable etc

Aaron,

when this is done are going to post a schematic or a tutorial on how to build it? Can it be done with various parts from dick smith?

Mitchy_G,

I'll be posting some pretty decent instructions up on a website (and if fordxr6turbo.com wants to host a copy it's cool) and basically making people aware of how I've done it.

So far its a little more difficult becuase the Ford connectors don't match what I've been able to find at Jaycar etc. And ofcourse I can't really (or rather don't want to) cut them out of the car to walk into other places and say "mate you got a male version of this".... And don't get me started on how the ICC has to be pulled out just to get a decent veiw of the video connector!

I'm looking at all avenues though and that's what's taking the time. There's no point in me posting up connector pinouts and wire colours and saying "Got for it guys" as that info is already out there (although it may have an error or two).

For those who don't want to solder up the stuff them selves I'll probably sell ready made cables for a fair price that covers my time to solder up and the cost fo the parts.

If there's anyone out there with some spare time though - and a desire to get involved and especialyl if you work with electrical connectors or with parts....

Let me know I'll point out exactly what conenctors I need to plug into and maybe you'll be able to identify a ready source!
