Are there any Plonky type rules regarding the TV/DVD being visible by the driver, eg only on the front screen when the car is stationary ?

I dont think the driver is allowed to be distracted by any sort of DVD/TV screen while the car is in motion, I have a Clarion TV in my XC, it is wired through the handbrake, doesnt work unless the handbrake light is on.

Not sure how the factory Sat Nav got around that problem, my sat nav is working all the time regardless of handbrake position..........

Hey People,

Great to see this thread has generated such interest. The DVD/MP3 add-on feature is an awesome addition.

Should anyone wish to have this feature fitted to your vehicle in Victoria, drop me an e-mail on baxr6t@optusnet.com.au and I can give you a quote on the cost installed.

RRP $1499 + Installation

G'day

I will try and answer some of your questions.

Can you give us any sort of time frame for when this super gear will be released into the public? Is there any way we can "pre-order" a unit, because id say demand will outstrip supply......

This product has caught everyone by suprise. The first batch of interfaces for navigation and DVD was released without any promotion and sold out within a week. I have now placed URGENT orderes with the supplier to cover the demand. This forum has given us a better idea of what the future demad could be. We are hoping to be stocked up in a couple of weeks!

Turbo Coty You have saved me great deal of time Thanks one question can you run aux in put I want to be able to run a laptop via the screen tell me what you think.....

Yes. If you purchase the IVSC5501 and the BA interface harness, you will have access to 1 NTSC 60Hz video input. All you have to do is set the display output on your laptop to TV NTSC. You will need to increase the size of your fonts as the display in the vehicle is not a PC monitor!

G'day turbocorty! Would I be correct to assume that if I fitted the Sat Nav for $3000 that this would give me additional AV inputs? If this is the case would I then be able to plug in my own DVD player or XBOX etc instead of the blau system? What is the resolution of the Ford screen and how many colours does it have? Is the Satnav DVD based? Thanks.

NO. You will need to purchase the IVSC5501 and an RBG cable to enable the A/V input. - this explains the cost difference between $3000 for the Nav and $4500 for the complete package including DVD. Once you have the A/V input you can connect any video source with the NTSC output. I don't have specs on the Ford display, but it seems to be a quality TFT panel.

The Blaupunkt navigation system is not DVD based - The current Australian mapping software only takes up 260Mb on the CD. This includes heaps of P.O.I's (Points of Interest including restaurants / service stations bla bla bla) DVD based navigation systems are usefull in situations like Europe when 1 DVD can cover 5 complete countries with very complicated road networks.

Wonder how much drama it would be to transfer when I upgrade to my next T?

If it is removed corectly, you will be able to reuse all the wiring/antennas/e.t.e

My fiend has a BMW330 and I beleive his tv screem turns blue when he drives any faster than 8km/h.

Do u think this system would do the same?

Yes, there are laws regarding motion pictures whilst driving. All system can be wired to comply with these laws. On the complete system (Nav and DVD) the navigation system will automatically disable the DVD input once the vehicle starts moving similar to BMW. (there is a way around this ;)

Navigation displays are legal!

Hope this info helps.

Like I said, any suggestions are welcome.

Bye

Hi Turbocorty,

Any knowledge of SatNav in New Zealand ? I know BMW are currently testing it here, but other than that we don't hear much about it ?

Will you be releasing software to make this work in NZ ?
