Falkin FK-452 on the RSpec...

Love'em!

Out lasting the KU31 - hands down!

Out lasting the Sp Sports Maxx!

Grippy, quiet (enough- better then the KU31's) and in a good price range to drive hard, and still last longer enough before changing again!

Well here are some quotes I've got so far - sadly my contact doesn't stock Goodyear at all.

Michelin PS2 - $790. OUCH!!!

PZero - $650. Still well out of range.

Yoko SDrive - $419. Getting there...

Maxxis MAZ1 - $215. Well within range

Importing is looking more attractive though... with the exchange rate and estimated shipping charge (I've emailed them and waiting for a quote on shipping) Michelins come in at about $430 a corner.

Question is - are they TWICE as good as the Maxxis? Especially considering the extra effort as obviously I'd need to be home when they're delivered (it won't work getting them delivered to the office) and then separately arrange for fitment.

Just noticed nobody has mentioned any Bridgestones...

Perfect if you had 18's on it, but you went and put 19's on. Too often ppl on here are getting 19's and beyond and when it comes time for rubber they cant afford anything decent, or can most of us at that size and times 4.

Im all for good looking rims but if you cant afford the rubber, then dont. What are your choices down too, some cheap never heard of brand.

I don't think he's struggling with cheapies that no one has heard of I.B. - see post above...

Yeah I was thinking of the Falkens... haven't heard too much about them yet, will do some digging.

Waiting on the sales guy from TireRack to give me a shipping quote - he asked for shipping, billing address AND phone number which I wasn't thrilled about just to get a quote but oh well.

I don't necessarily HAVE to spend up to budget but in a 19" the Maxxis almost seem TOO cheap!

Just a note on your original choices..

I had the Michelin Pilot proceeda PP2 and found them great for the first 50% tread... after that they become VERY noisy (worse than my std dunlops were lol) and had obviously gone hard as they were simply useless in the wet and dry after that. I recall 2100-2200 got them on, with everything balanced and aligned.

Now I have Yokohama Advan Sport V103s and so far LOVE them. These were around 1950 in comparison; I didn't really shop around too much for prices, so you may do a bit better really.

They sit wider on a std ford 19" rim, they are soft for ride but not floaty/boaty/soft with steering. Also quieter than the Michelins at their best (read new) and I know you said grip was not very important but these dont have an issue in that department.

You can also swap them side to side which would help with wear...

That is all I can input as I have tried no others, yet.

Cheers

Still happy with my 91" Maragoni mythos, good mid range tyre :roflmbo:

What has surprised me lately are the Adrenalin Potenza RE001 I put on my 17s as traveling tyres for interstate trips. they are holding 300kw quite well and feel sure footed wet or dry, cost about 250 a corner for 17s not sure how much for 19s though.

As it turns out my wife used to work for a company who makes Bridges out of Stones, and her best friend works at a place owned by a guy named Bob who has a son called Rodney - that's why I was interested that nobody had commented on Adrenalins!

If I can sort this importing bizzo out (and make sure they're shipped in 2 lots of 2 tyres, as some other research has suggested one can *cough* avoid customs duty and GST *cough* by having a package valued at less than $1,000... Tire Rack have Goodyear Asymmetric for $263, which is $25 off even their normal price (prices in USD). That's a full $75 cheaper a corner then they're doing the Michelins for.

You didn't even bother getting a price on the Continental Sports Contact 3?

They are a much better tire then the overpriced Yoko SDrive.

The only thing against them that they are a slightly noisy shoe.

Although I dont reccomend the unknowns, I was budget conciouss a few months ago and went with a brand called Sava Intensas. There made by the Continental factory in Germany. Great in the dry but a lil ordinary in the wet, which was the tade off.

Mate, couldnt find any review or info anywhere that said not to go with the Falkens, hence I gave them a run!

First pair changed was to the KU31's a lot said where the "ducks floaties" for under 500$ - they were hard, loud, and like dry bits of sand paper... - cracked up, broke apart and wore out in under 10,000kms!!!

Considered a lot - and the best bang for buck, mileage, and reviews I could find said go with the Falkens... So far Loving them as mentioned...

From what I understand they are actually out of the same factory in Japan as Dunlop's high end rubbers like the SP Sports Maxx range, and Direzza's.... Just a different tread (very similer however all the high end sumitimo tyres - dunlop, falken, good year, etc)...

SP Sports Maxx

Direzza Sports (Dunlop Extreme Sports Tyre)

Falken FK452

Only problem with the Direzza is the weight rating...

Hope this helps with these 3 options...

Falkens 19" - around $310-$390 mark....
