Greetings earthlings

It's time for some new rubber for my G6ET.

As you can see they're 19s (although if I'm being honest, they're not the genuine article sadly as the budget just didn't go that far). Current tyres are 245/34/ZR19.

My biggest complaints about the sh*tty cheapos the dealer put on them are:

1. They are noisier than a very noisy thing

2. They are next to useless in the wet.

Hence I MUST address those two issues with my next purchase.

What I'm NOT worried about, is basing my choice on something that will "fully hook up between 1st and 2nd so you can run a 12". Sure I want them to be grippy but a fast pass is not my first priority.

Money is never NO object, but on the other hand I have some decent contacts hopefully and after all, the tyres are the only thing between my family's life and the road. I fully expect to have to part with some decent coin.

So please let me have some recommendations. If possible please only refer to something in a 19" diameter as some of my research around here already has suggested that while a manufacturer may make a good tyre in say 17" or 18", the 19" they make isn't automatically also a good tyre.

I'm also happy to go as wide as the FG can handle so if anything wider than 245 will fit, as I suspect it will, then please let me know!

Stay classy

Ron

Anybody?

I've set a max budget of probably say $400 a corner... was looking around at Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 but they seem to be WELL beyond that range I think! They get great reviews at tirerack.com. Although the price there is around $330 which is interesting (obviously USD but still).

Yokie Advans... seem to be pretty good as well, not sure on the price though.

Goodyear F1 GS-D3??

Otherwise the Sumitomo HTR Z III or Maxxis MAZ1 although they're both cheaper but seem to be good value.

Am willing to pay for quality so I'm not willing to go for the Sumis/Maxxis just yet!

I know you said 19 experience BUT I don't have it , so here goes the F1 gs-d3 are a fantastic tyre only exp them in 18 in though , only thing I thought they lacked a little was wet weather they were good but not the best I have had.

out of all the sets of tyres I have used on perf cars I still think continental directional tyres in any size are the best on the market wet/dry corners freeways they just do everything well but I imagine the 19's will be pricey

In the cheaper range:

Toyo Proxus 4 - I just had these put on the front at $260 a corner. They replaced Falken 452s. Softer sidewall than the falkens which you can feel when cornering hard, doesnt turn in as shaprly but the ride is quieter and smoother over small bumps, on the limit grip is fantastic and braking feels better. Slightly noiser than the falkens when cornering hard though. The Falkens tend to get nasty as they get older.... noisy and unpredictable grip.

My budget was limited to $300 a corner, these were the best tyre in the range.

Im running the sumitomo HTR Z III's in 245/35/19 on my G6ET and they are much better grip wise than the dunlop's that were factory fit, price wise they were alot better too (I payed just under $300 a tyre) BUT noise wise there lineball with the factory dunlops. Which means they are nice and quiet on smooth bitumen but can get a bit "rumbly" on coarse chip bitumen, for the price id probably buy them again when the time comes to get new tyres.

I don't have the OEM Dunlops - I wasn't clever enough to specify I wanted them when I asked them to change the rims bangcomputer.gif

Has anyone bought from Tirerack before? The Pilot Sports seem to be absurdly priced over here at $800+... yet they're $320ish on the site, US dollars and would need to add shipping but surely that would work out to say $400 AUD per corner which is less than half of what they might sell for over here?!

I just got a pair of Goodyear EAGLE F1 ASYMETRIC tyres.

They were $480 a corner, but heaps better than the Dunslop Max I had before.

The dunlops would spin on takeoff, where the F1's grip. I know they are above your price range, but a great tyre non the less.

The ratings on the Assymetric seem to be only marginally better than the GS-D3, might come down to price.

Will see how I go.

Thanks for the tips so far guys, keep them coming
