ey guys I bought a Samoyed puppy a few weeks ago he's about 10 weeks old now and he's driving me crazy! lil bastard tries biting everything and everyone! is that normal for a puppy? is he teething or something? will he grow out of it or will I need to take him to puppy school to stop him from doin it? Samoyeds are generally very friendly dogs....actually over friendly! apart from this biting thing he's awesome n I love him to bits but its fkn impossible to get a leach on n off him! Any good advice from someone whos been there n done that would be appreciated!

here's some pics of the culprit!

HAHAH,NICE... I was going to get one of these but ended up getting a Malamute instead. When we first got him he was the same, wanting to bite everything and wouldnt even move when we finally got a lead on him. They grow out of it in time but try not to spoil it and be firm when they do wrong.. Our Mal is 8mnths old now and I <3 Bananas massive. Now he wants to always get on the lead go for a walk and is bloody strong. He still love bites you but if he hurts you he knows straight away and sh*ts himself. As my wife has told me for the first 7 mnths of owning him..."dont get rid of him hes a pup and that's what pups do". Dont worry mate he will grow out of it once he adapts to his new surroundings away from his original tribe.

This is your first dog isnt it, of your own and not the family?

Puppies of all types destory things with teeth and digging. Puppy pre-school is not only advised for teaching it obedience, but also for socialisation. Get the puppy a friend and they will bite one another, and not you or your things. They grow out of it after about 9-12 months, enjoy it :)

ahh yeh malamute was another breed I was looking at but this one picture I saw of a full grown samoyed on wikipedia had me sold! well good to hear its a normal thing because everyone in the family is attached to him so bad and we don't want anything to be wrong with him. South yeh it is our first real crack at owning a dog. I was looking at puppy pre-school for him...can anyone recommend one in melbourne?

by the way heres the pic from wikipedia!

just got a 9mth cane corso, 30kg. the people that frieghted him would,nt even load him the first time, cause he went mental. they then loaded him next flight with a added timber crate around his cage. when they unloaded him, no one wanted a bar of it. well I got him home. and loves me to the death. but thinks my mates are made of prime t bone, try to attack atleast 10 times per visit. now does that make you feel better. lol

You need to take him to puppy school if he's biting shit or not and train him and socialize the shit out of him with other dogs, humans, little humans, the mailman, the avon lady, the parcel delivery guy, everybody!!

Take it from an owner of an adopted dog that wasn't socialized properly. The more work you do now the better dog he will be in the future!

I thought puppy pre school was a wate of time and money until we got our last dog a bernese mountain dog, reinforced the importance of alot of basic training and now he is great around any one and any dog. Best thing we have done wish I had done it with my lab previously as he is a nut case :)

Teething is something that all puppies do but like the others above have said, its important the dog realises that their teeth should never meet human skin. Get some good toys. Kramar have a great teething range as do the Kong. Dont go to solid on the toy's or you'll end up doing more damage

Samoyeds are great dogs, my mrs has one that's 17 years old but with all dogs, its very important for some training. The sooner the better. Have a chat to your local vets / pet stores / dog trainers and see what works with you and most importantly stick with it and encourage puppy playtime so he doesnt wanna tear every dog a new as....

The teething will stop soon enough and then you will see how destructive a puppy will be. Fences, furniture, bedding, gardens, retics etc. I hear it daily!

My other advice is use a good dog food. Stay away from pal / pedigree / chum etc. You wouldn't put terrible fuel in a tuned car would you ;) Trust me when I say its worth spending the money.

Bernese are awesome dogs!!! My next dog will be a Bernese. Really friendly with plenty of size!
