hey all few issues .. as I come off kerbs with the wheel turned I get this massive clunk from the front end but I cant see anything obvious it does it in both directions and if im sitting still and move the steering left to right just before the end it clunks both ways.. I have also noticed that the steering wheel is loose and I recently had a wheel alignment to try and straighten up the steering wheel but that still dosnt sit straight when the wheels are straight . I was thinking maybe ball joints, and maybe the uni joint in the steering but not 100% and for the uni joint to go at 750000 is a tad weird. but any ideas would be much appreciated

has your dad got a press to put the ball joints into the arms? These ones don't just bolt in.

Parts are cheap, plenty of change from $100 :roflmbo:

hey update. ive sorta narrowed it down to being a knock in the rack vibrating through the steering or a knock in the coloum vibrating through the rack cant really pin point it any more.. wats the chances the steering rack is the problem and has anyone else had similar issues

My rack and pinion used to click, then started clunking after about 2years it got to painfull so had it replaced. I didn't hit any gutters with it either but the gear in the rack and pinion was shagged so I took it to a steering parts supplier in Brisbane and had them replace just the rack and pinion. Cost was about $380-400 fitted and all is fixed.

Pedders quoted me $1000 for the same job!

Buy the part from a steering supplier and get your dad to fit it if you want to save $100 or so.

I think the rack and pinion click has always been a flaw with the fords as my EF, AU and the BA have all had the clicking but only the BA has had the clunk as I didn't have the other two long enough!

Also check the steering rack mounts, they do come loose by around half a turn in some cases. Its the two bolts that go into the cross member :stirthepot:
