Merlin Member 57 Member For: 21y 9m 1d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 22/09/03 07:02 AM Share Posted 22/09/03 07:02 AM I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.Car is an XR6 NA manual. This only has happened first thing in morning ie. cold start.About 5 days ago I started the car, it kicked over, then stalled. I immediatley started it again and it stayed on but felt like it was running on 3 cylinders - VERY lumpy idle. Turned car off, restarted it - PERFECT idle, no problems.Today - exact same problem again.Car is running fine this arvo but I am concerned about these random cold start problems. I dont want to take to dealer as I am very busy - also dealer will just claim nothings wrong like they always do.Any suggestions guys??

Guest LOK@ChipTorque Guests Posted 24/09/03 03:22 AM Share Posted 24/09/03 03:22 AM I'd agree with Fordtech but also, make sure you don't touch the throttle on startup or you may generate an invalid throttle request and the PCM will set limp mode. (That's the 3 cylinder operation until reset)Lachlan

After a while she finally settles down.Still very happy but wasnt too sure

Upon speaking with a techie from Ford - someone I know and respect, this was his advice to me.1. With the car off, push your accelerator pedal flat to the floor.2. Turn the car on and then crank it over for about 10 seconds (don't worry - it will not start because with the accelerator being flat cuts out the fuel injectors)3. Turn the car back off and release the accelerator.4. Start the car as per normal. What this does apparently is phases the cams in..... so I am told. BUT, it does actually work. My ute now idles smoothly - I was absolutely dumbfounded when it worked. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose.
