Missus works for Queensland Transport... This is an exerpt from the Queensland Road Rules.

21 Speed limit where a speed limit sign applies

(1) The speed limit applying to a driver for a length of road to

which a speed limit sign applies is the number of kilometres

per hour indicated by the number on the sign.

(2) A speed limit sign on a road applies to the length of road

beginning at the sign and ending at the nearest of the

following—

(a) a speed limit sign on the road with a different number on

the sign;

(b) an end speed limit sign or speed derestriction sign on the

road;

© if the road ends at a T-intersection or dead end—the end

of the road.

It's a boring read, but has opened my eyes to a few things good and bad.

sorry to hear about your brother

but if your going to try to tell me you have never gone over the speed limit I find that hard to belive

ill be honest I always sit about 10kph over in a 100 zone but besides the 50 zone I was into today of which most days id be over the speed limit since its in the bush and has no houses on that side of the road or drive ways besides the one the copper was parked in

I dont speed in 40/50/60/70/80 zones by more than 5 kph max

most people speed without even realizing it. as far as I,m concerned you roll the dice getting in the bloody car. with the power and how quiet they are. its an effort to roll at 60km without going over naturally. let alone . I,d like to stick a bloody 18wheeler over the wankers that do 30km under the speed limit.

its the same for you as with all of us-

if you decide to do the crime be willing to accept the time.

I speed sometimes- but can work out that if I get caught theres gonna be consequences.

accept it........ :surrenderwave:

Technically, you are in the wrong - you play, you pay.

Having said that, when I merge onto a freeway from an 80km on-ramp, I make sure I'm doing 100 before merging. The merge is much smoother and much less interruptive. So technically, I'm speeding. How bad is it when someone merges at 70kmh or so?

And in most situations, if you get booked a genuine 30 meters before a 100kmh zone then there can only be one thing on the locals minds.

by the way. I was booked here in QLD on sunday. The officer got me at 110k, I had cruise set bang on 105 and said I was on 105, and he stated that the lower limit was 105 to 112. The 10% is out the window, it's down to 5%. We had a good chat as he knows my wife, and he said it is all about numbers. But at 1 point and onlt $133 I wasn't going to complain. He was cool with me, I kept my head too.

whats that another rip off pointless speed trap

I mean I can understand maybe 50m into 50kph zone as you have had more than enough time to realize and slow but come on were I was booked is a joke and everybody knows it

cheers trev

This is why I like Queenslands gradual speed increases and decreases. 50-100km/h would go: 50 - 60 - 80 - 100km/h signs over a distance. When you come into a town on a highway, you will hit an 80 sign and then a 60 sign, then a 50 sign if the area needs one. None of this 100-50km/h hit the picks or loose your licence crap.

But then again, you put your foot down and I'd say you are lucky he picked you up at 80km/h, my bet is you were still accelerating to 100... could have been far worse!

At the end of the day, you exceeded the speed limit. Therefore you were charged. No getting out of this one. Take it on the chin and learn... I certainly have...

by the way. That cop is doing his job. That doesnt make him an asshole.

They had a program on a current affair about this sort of crap in Sydney, Speed Zones jumping up and down all over the place. Some places you get 40 km in a school zone, then up to 70km then down to 50, all on the same f*ckin road! It adds an extra hazard to the driving conditions. Add to the fact you often get some idiot sitting on your arse wanting you to speed up.

Apparently coppers are supposed to put up a sign in the area warning that they are operating speed cameras, and they are only supposed to be operating them in known 'black spots' (if the info from UPMART is accurate). Good luck fighting it in court though.

If youve got a good solicitor you can drag it out for months, but youll be postponing the inevitble.

Girl from work was done in the same way on Princess Hwy heading south out of Sydney, I think the zone changed from 50 to 80 or from 60 to 100 don't remember exactly but anyway she was more than 30 over the limit, took it to court and pleaded guilty and received 2 months suspension instead of 3. But as she said the judge didn't like her for some reason as another lady before her was let off with a similar penalty. It's all about how you present yourself to the judge and in what kinda mood they are in at the time.

I wouldn't mention assholes either.

I can see how getting done in such a manner would make you angry though. I've copped it many times before but they were all fair and I was clearly in the wrong, if you speed you should accept the consequence so I just took it on the chin but it would be hard with something like this as it's pretty bizarre be it the law or not.
